The Food Trail has shown in NSW 6 times now. It has won the rating for it’s time slot 4 times and also helped the 6pm news to a win 4 times. It came second twice to specialist sports events so all in all you would consider that a win as you cannot win against the specialist sports events!
The Vic Food Trail is screening for the third time this year in Vic and I am proud and happy to say it has won it’s time slot except for once – you guessed it, coming in second to a specialist sports event – hey Melbourne has just been announced as the sporting capital of the world so you would expect that!
I know the Food Trail is a great show, has proven ratings success and an audience that wants to see more.
I also know that Channel Seven have declined to support The Food Trail – a Xmas Feast, in my view and that of the statistics – a winner – I just dont know why.
We would have travelled around Victoria gathering the produce we need to cook up a rip roaring Xmas feast. I then would have gone to a great resturant in Melbourne and worked with a chef to cook up a Xmas lunch (to die for) and serve it up to some of Channel Seven’s A list TV personalties. We could have all wished our audience a very merry Xmas. But no, Seven have declined to contribute to the making of it – which is their right of course. I know it would work and I know that it would rate really well. I know that it would be a great Xmas cheer for the network and the audience. I also know that there are some people in the Network that know that too (and I am grateful for their support)
Anyway I am disappointed. Disappointed because I have seen failing shows get much more support. Tv is a funny game!
Just in case you were wondering following is a basic outline of the menu I would have cooked for the lunch amd in fact it is pretty much what I will be cooking for my Xmas Lunch – I would have loved to cook it for you.
Mixed BBQ’d seafood salad -prawns, scallops and squid with a summer fruit salsa
Bbq half lobsters basted with butter, lemon, garlic and parsley
Mercs Own Australian BBQ’d slow cooked smoked Briskett
Turkey done on the webber with Mildura dried fruit, pine nut and rice
stuffing
Victoria’s best Ham done Dads way – glazed with jam and honey, studded with cloves then basted and double cooked
Potato salad – bacon, Gipsland cream, eggs, mayo
seasonal garden salad
coleslaw – 3 types of cabbage, carrot, apple with a Texan dressing
Fruit pudding with Tasmanian Pepper Berry ice cream
A selection of Victorian Micro brewed beers from Matilda Bay, Mountain Goat, Holgate and Red Hill breweries
Tucks Ridge wines (Redhill)and of course some Victorian Yarra Burn Sparkling Wine from the Yarra Valley
Victorian and Tasmanian Cheese plater with Rutherglen Muscat and grapes
YUM!

They’re Mad Paul !! After my complaining I did get to see the Tassie food trails – loved it , you managed to capture that feel of Tassie too. I kind of think of it as a quietness , stillness but it’s different to other country areas .
Is it against contract to pitch Food trails xmas to the ABC or SBS ? You may be running out of time but would requests to ch 7 for more food trails help ? Maybe take a different slant and rework it for a New Year’s thing ?
Ps do you have a simple bbq prawn recipe that a dunce could cope with for chrissie lunch?
Hi to the PC crowd !! lots of lov Amanda
Ps I had a Billy Elliot audition with the old ducks and lasted the
whole day ie tapped , danced , read ,sung – not sure what they’re doing next but what a buzz after such a long time out !!
Dear Paul,
thank you! I can skip breakfast now, after reading your X-mas menu! How many days in advance will you begin the cooking of this feast for your family?
Too bad that the network isn’t picking up the idea. It would have been a refreshing break from what’s often on around holidays (well, at least here, don’t know Aussie TV programming). I’d be bummed out too, if I were you. You never know, another opportunity might come up in its place!
Have a lovely day!
Evelyn
yum!!!delicious menu!!
I do not see its program here in Brazil, but I had access the site and I could perceive its wonderful prescriptions.
It would be happy if one day it could know the culin
I believe that there is no rhyme or reason behind programing decisions at least in the U.S. I think that such a show not only would make sense around the Holiday time but also this menu looks so superb and creative. I’m not too familiar about what’s popular cuisine in Australia but I’m sure it would have dazzled viewers palettes (and I’m not just saying it b/c it the Big Kanoona).
I have an internation DVD player at home and I hope to order the Food Trail sometime soon if its possible.
Maybe Channel Seven will change their mind you never know…
Great work Paul,
Julie

My word! I thought my mom always prepared too much food for Xmas! Paul, my mother would bow down to you. LOL
Its got to be frustrating that Channel 7 didn’t opt to carry the program.
Now I don’t know about anyone else, but I would love to see recipes… especially for the glazed ham. (Admittedly I’m not much of a seafood eater.) So, any chance you might post some of these wonderful sounding recipes? Hint, hint… ;o)
(If this turns out to be duplicate post, my apologies… I was having internet problems…)

Can I come to your house for Christmas dinner, Paul?
Everything on the menu is mouth watering, as I *love* BBQ. I keep forgetting that it’s summer time in Oz and that all the great ingredients should be plentiful there.
It’s a shame we don’t get Food Trail here in the US. The Food network has Kylie Kwong on and I always watch, but I would rather watch you prepare what always sounds so delicious.
I hope you’ll put up some of the receipies here as I’m dying to try the baked ham and turkey. There’s only so much one can do with turkey!
Be well.
Sally C.
Hey Paul. Hi Everyone.
I’ve been reading Paul’s Corner for months, but have never before replied. This Christmas menu simply BEGS me respond!!!
What a feast!!! What wonderful, mindboggling choices!!! I’m not much of a cook, but I LOVE trying anything new.
Please, please, PLEASE will you post the recipes? Those of us in the USA have no hope of seeing your programs, but my palate is simply crying out for a taste of these menu items!!!
YUM is right!!! Gosh, what a fabulous array of delights. I would have watched the show, no doubt about it. They’re nuts to pass that up. T.V. ScheeMV..they’re all ego maniacs. Nothing surprises me.
Thanks for the awesome article about the house!! Sounds fantastic!
Happy Holidays to you and your family Paul and everyone.
My daughter and son-in-law are coming from Washington State to Colorado for Thanksgiving. I can’t wait!
Paul–
It does sound awesome! Sorry this did not work for you, but even after dealing with dance and production woes and decisions all these years, it never fails to amaze me what’s done and dropped . . . (sigh)
That’s fine–you just share this with family and friends and let “seven” lose out!
Having turkey in a few days myself with Thanksgiving coming (USA). While it won’t be done on a webber, my brother’s mother-in-law is a good cook in her own right, so I’m sure we’ll be stuffed good and proper by day’s end.
I read about the house–sounds great! Maybe you didn’t get the Christmas show, but the renovation will be a gift in itself.
