Queen’s Baton due in Victoria
THE Queen’s Baton will today arrive in host state Victoria ahead of the Commonwealth Games, which start in Melbourne on March 15.
The hi-tech Baton, which has spent five days in South Australia, will enter Victoria’s north west tip near the town Merbein about 3pm (AEDT).

The Baton’s first week in Victoria will include a hot air balloon ride in Mildura, a trip in a horse drawn Cobb and Co coach at Swan Hill, a ride on the miniature railway at Shepparton and two horse-and-sulky rides.

The Baton will also go to Bendigo, Healseville, Benalla, Wangaratta and Wodonga.

Baton relay runners will include dancer Paul Mercurio and motor racing legend Peter Brock.

Baton relay began its Australian journey on January 25 in Castlereagh, NSW, and has travelled through Queensland, the Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia.

By the time the Baton reaches the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on March 15, it will have travelled 180,000km.
