Food for thought

I do read all the comments and whilst I take it in and think about them I do not reply directly to them - although I may start adding to the comment list to stay in a particular thread. That said I thought I would make a couple of replies to comments now:

Phil - good to hear from you and I will smack Jo on the noggin when I see him. He is moving to Melbourne by the way.

Incubus girl thinks I am over the hill at 39! MMMM....I've been over many hills in my adventurous lifetime and plan to conquer many more. Age isnt a barrier only an attitude!

I have a huge folder of my poems that I have written since I was 17. I have always thought I would like to put them in a book and publish them. The title is "Diary of an Angry Young Man" Thats because it was through my poetry or writings that I explored my internal world and that helped me work through my external world. Some of you readers have expressed an interest in buying such a tome. Maybe I'll get the folder out and start typing them up and publish them for you. They are hardly pretty but they are an honest journey.

I am also working on writing a cook book! LOL I know!! It is in fact based on cooking with one of my favourite ingredients - Beer! I have had a couple of my recipes published in magazines here in OZ and also I have cooked on a couple of TV shows. It's all a bit silly really but I love it! The finished product is about a year or more away - release date is Fathers day 2003. Maybe I will see if Cat can put an order page up on the site.

Regarding cooking I am hosting a beer dinner at a local micro brewery here in Melbourne. As part of the dinner I am making Jalapeno Poppers. Now I have never made them before but will do my first experiment today - poblano chillies or jalapeno chillies grilled, peeled stuffed with cheese, mint and chives dipped in beer batter and deep fried. If any one out there wants to send me a tried and true recipe for these I will put it my records and give it a go - they might even make it into my book!

Why is it that it is easier to imagine the worst instead of the best?

Charlie, my agent in L.A is Rima Greer. the name of the agency is Above the Line and her number is 310 8596115. Send the script to her, she will read it and send it to me. I will read it and then what happens after that is up to the universe and us of course.

No we dont get Iron Chef out here. And the beer in my hand in the picture is Coopers Sparkling Ale. Yes you can get it in the States but I dont know where. You will have to search it out, I will ask my friends at Coopers for the name of the distributor and let you know.

Someone reminded me of a very early post of mine regarding being reminded to talk about moments and nothing. When I find a moment to talk of nothing I shall. It's probably an all too common activity....

I also have another topic to talk about, the title is "want". So get ready for that one. For now I have to take my two young daughters off to the doctors - they have colds that they cant shake off. And then it's popper discovery time!

Have a good one.

Paul
ps anything you really want to know, ask me. If there is too much I will endevour to get throught it all eventually.

A bit late, I'm afraid, but I've only just discovered you!!! They are playing "Strictly Ballroom" incessantly on American premium cable.
I think I've seen it a dozen times, and all to watch the dance number you did to"Perhaps". Oyvay.
Did you ever consider a turn in a company of West Side Story? I hope you will work more in American films. I think you are a really gifted actor and an outstanding dancer!

NOT SILLY!

(On the cookbook) - I hear a level of embarassment or unease in you, there, Paul. What's up with that? You of all people know how much you love to cook and create, and let's face it, 2,000 years ago, if you had that skill, you'd be the major hottie in the tribe, so don't give me any crap about "oh, it's kinda girly" or "gay"...NOT that you would ever say that, I just heard a little trepidation there so wanted to remind you to speak your truth with conviction. (Yes, this is your Internet Mother speaking! hahahaa...Uh, no, at 35, not possible.)

Ah yes, the "age thing"...obviously, Incubusgirl has the power of youth on her side at this point. Honey, when you "settle down", 'cause someday, you will, no matter how much you say marraige or a baby will "never change me"...oh, then can you cast words about people not being what they were.

PAul, are you glad you are "not what you were?" I certainly am. I was a drop-dead gorgeous, independent, smart and stylin'young thang with the world at my feet. And I loved it. But I love THIS, what I have, this understanding of who I am that can only come with sharing a committed life with someone--not to mention the parent thing--I like this better. Sure, I miss my 119lb figure and the attention of the men and admiration of the laides when I walked down a street, as well as the possibility that I could go anywhere, anytime, without it affecting much of anyone else. However, I wouldn't change a thing. What I was then is still who I am. I am just more wise and less arrogant now. No, sometimes MORE arrogant now, witht the realization of how "less wise" I am every day as new things come to light and my sphere grows.

Ok, so, lest I bore anyone with my trying to tell some young thing she'll be on "our" side of 30 someday too...

Poetry...Paul, do it. Please do it. You've got most of them written, at least post them here. I know what you're afraid of in sending them out to a publisher...this isn't like a fictious novel, or even a factual cookbook where either they like "it" or they don't. This is You. This is your Core. Sending that out in black and white has got to be harder than dancing naked in front of an audience. They can't condemn your body in it's artistic format, but they could do worse, condemn or demean your thought process and choice for going out there and doing it. And, since you've already done the nude thing...NEXT!

However, if you're ready, and from what I am hearing you ARE ready...put it out there. Give it a shot.

It is what it IS.

Much love and prayers for continued success,
Dhiana

PS.Hope the girls are getting better--we have something similar here in NY state, a "persistant virus" they are calling it...my four yr old was down for a week and STILL has the red eyes and goopy nose. However, you know me by now...Mystic's R'US...if anyone is interested, I'll post a link to something VERY interesting that has to do with the Energy Flux over the past few months...actually, I AM going to grab the snippet on Mercury and send it...it's just no coincidence that "Mercurio" shouts of Mercurial tendencies. (ooh, save that title for your next written project..."Mercurial Tendencies".) ALLRIGHT, more coffee is obviously in order.

Hey you! :)

An order page would be easy-squeezy, when you're ready. Also easy would be adding other pages where you can put up recipes and/or poems if you like. You know how this page is one blog? Frytopia is *four*, so it's easy to do. Let me know if you're interested. (Well, after the Blogathon that is.)

I have my fingers and toes crossed for the job, but on the other hand, I have tremendous confidence that there is a break waiting for you, even if this isn't it.

Oh--forgot--I can't find my popper recipe, but what you're doing sounds better than anything I tried. Just remember to wear rubber gloves! I didn't the first time and I paid the price.

Hello,
I feel for the girls...I have had a virus of some sort for over a month now...bronchitis...yick! Cannot seem to shake it.
I have no recipe for the poppers only one piece of advice...

After handling any of the peppers WASH YOUR HANDS THOROUGHLY! This is of course elementary advice...but you'd be surprised how many people forget about the oils on those bad boys....never touch your eyes, nose...and for the love of all things holy....do not use the restroom before you wash your hands!

Ok,...that's all. Take care.

Sarah

P.S. Oh yeah, Cilantro is always good in poppers.

both my sister and i grew up watching joseph every easter afternoon. we thought you portrayed the Biblical character very well and made him come to life, so to speak.
we recently came upon strictly ballroom, which was equally amazing. i admire your dancing abilities.
God bless.

Sadly I have just discovered this site (been a fan since I saw "Joseph" about 5 years ago or so) and I am not sure how to post so you will read it, but what the hey, it's worth a try. First off I would like to say thank you. Being involved in the entertainment industry myself it is very rare to find a "celebrity" who actually cares that much about their fans that they update online, answering people's questions and such. So thank you and thank you also to the webmaster. I run a fan club for a singer myself and it is very hard to even get him online to read and respond to his email which I think is very important. Fans make or break you I feel, for the most part anyway. Anyway I have recommended (sp?) Strictly Ballroom to all my deprived friends who have not seen it since I absolutely adore it! And may I ask, do you prefer dancing like that better than perhaps lets say putting on the radio at home and dancing like a maniac, since no one is watching? I swing dance myself and i gotta say that i prefer dancing at home by myself, not really knowing anysteps but just feeling the music and so I was curious on your feelings. Love, peace and chicken grease,

Marci

You speak of food, ah, food. I am a BIG fan of food. I have sampled many different kinds of poppers over the years and the trick really seems to be making them hot enough to be hot and yet not too hot to where they are hard to eat or leave one feeling "yucky" afterwards. Also they should not be too "mushy" or gooey in the middle. There needs to be just the right balance of batter on the outside and stuff on the inside. My mouth is watering at the moment as I am remembering all those great bar foods I have sampled over the years. One of my favs is spinich and artichoke dip. The best I have had yet was at a place, I think it's a chain here in the states, John Harvard. Do you have a good recipe for that? I am also wondering, since you are into cooking with beer, is there anything that you have ever eaten or made yourself that is made with a "fruity" ale, such as rasberry or blueberry? If you have never had blueberry ale you have to try it Paul. My mother has a B&B in Bass Harbor Maine, Bass Harbor Gables, and up there near by in a town called Bar Harbor you can get freshly brewed blueberry ale from a cafe in town called the Lompoc. I have even gotten my mother to leave a few bottles in the frig at her place for the guests. It's one of the best micro brews I have ever had and I take these sorts of things quite seriously. Ha-ha....;-) You must excuse me now, I have to go make myself a snack...

p: i have no idea if you ever backtrack and read additional posts, but i wanted to respond to this one anyway.

i have notebooks and folders full of my own poems, prose and diatribes, as well. i remember back in highschool i was asked by the school paper to submit some poems for publication, so i gave them a thick folder full of poems and told them to print whatever they wanted and give them back to me. well, they printed four, and that's exactly how many i got back...four. the rest of the folder disappeared. i don't think i lifted a pen to write again for the better part of two years. ouch.

i have since rebuilt my collection, coming to the conclusion that i doubt my greatest nuggets were in that lost stack of poems...ha, at least i hope not, and hoping that whoever found them enjoyed them and didn't use them to wipe their arse.

i would very much enjoy reading your works, so i hope you do find the time to put them together. i love that cat is geared and ready to set up recipe and poetry sections of the site. we could always start a monthly thread with a theme, and everyone could be invited to submit a poem to share with all.

the cookbook sounds fabulous. i can hardly boil water, but one of my favorite things to do is eat..it's right up there with drinking beer with friends and one other thing.

did i miss the thread about "want," or did we get sidetracked?

cheers to you.
