an ending and a beginning

I have been offered the role of Ethan in The Full Monty.

So I have climbed and conquered one mountain and now the journey to the next begins!

I am happy and cannot wait to get out there and do it!

As with any journey there is much to organise and plan and with luck all will fall in to place.

Thank you for your thoughts and best wishes.

Time to step up again!

Thats the funny thing about stepping up, each time you do it you are invited, dared and demanded to go again :) Fine with me!

Good news, acknowledged at last, affirmed at last, accepted.

YES!!!!! CONGRATS, PAUL!!!! I am soooooo very happy for you and you deserve that acknowledgement, the opportunity to perform again, to do what you love. Those kind of challenges and dares are fun, aren't they? Enjoy it and may it be even more than you currently dream and hope for it to be. Glowing with even more pride and happiness at your success!!!

Love,
Evelyn

Very Good!!! I'm doing my happy dance for you, Paul!! You'll be busy, but I bet you'll love it!

Outstanding news! CONGRATULATIONS, PAUL!!!!!
We knew YOU could do it. Just glad THEY had eyes to see it.

I know you'll be busy, but please keep us posted on your progress and the performance schedule.

While on the Internet last night, I noticed an unusually high amount of good news: the Supreme Court ordered a stay of execution for a Texas man; 16 year-old Elizabeth Smart, kidnapped and missing for 9 months was returned safe to her family. I couldn't help but feel a giant wave of optimism. And now with your news, the world does feel more right again.

Love to you and your family, Paul, and to all my family here.

Just kidding, I'm so happy for you! We will all be there with you in spirit wishing we could be there in person.

Go to it Paul, step up!!!!

I TOLD YOU SO, PAUL!!!

"Curtain up,
Light the lights,
You've got nothing to hit but the heights,
You'll be swell,
You'll be great,
I can tell, just you wait,
That lucky star I talked about is due,
Honey, everythings's coming up roses
For me and for you!"

I got my chance with the success of "Follies."
Now, it's your turn!

HOORAY Paul. Only a matter of time. A new start. New challenges. New fun.
I'll bet that's lifted your spirits! Enjoy it for all it's worth. Brilliantly done. An opportunity like this one to once again showcase your performing talents is bound to bring more and more and more. Perhaps this is only the start.
Best of wishes, best of luck.

Gran Millie, Teeeee...riffic to hear of your success with "the follies". Sounds like wonderful fun. You must have a talented and dedicated group of senior cit's working with you. Congratulations.
You sometimes amaze me with your knowledge of performers and their works.

Whitney, Good to hear your having a nice stay, and a well earned break no doubt.

Stay well one and all.

okay, now i'm getting a little worried....

timmer, where are you? The board needs you!

I'm so, so happy for you Paul! Can't wait to hear all about this production.

Glad to hear Follies was such a success Grandma. Wish we all could have been there.

Peter, my son Chris, who is 14 by the way, wants to know if you get American wrestling on TV there. I know, I know, this is SUCH an important question! But hey, he's got his priorities, right? Rock and roll, skateboarding, girls, video games.... LOTS of testosterone around my house these days.

Love to all,

Yes....where's our Tim?
Tim, we miss U!!

Hi Inn!

Hi Michelle/Chicago.

Hi Peter!

Hi Whitney and G.Mil and G. Elliot. Sounds like you all have a very busy but fun agenda. I haven't seen Chicago yet myself. If it's still raining this weekend (likely...grrrr) then I may do the matinee. Have fun you guys!

Thanks all for your good wishes and of course I will keep you posted. The rehersals start in September so I have plenty of time to continue selling computers and working other jobs to keep my head above water until then. So dont any body worry I will still be posting my angst and questioning the powers that be!

I do hope this is the change I have been waiting for and you can bet I am going to make the most of it!!

Love to all as always and as Tim is being a bit quiet lets send him some love and hugs collectively. Isnt his tap concert on real soon?

Paul, we're so thrilled, Mil and I, that we can't stop talking about this wonderful recognition you so deserve! We're about to go to dinner with a couple of her best pals and I'm so honored to be here to celebrate her and El's 50th as well as see the show!

I didn't give my review earlier because I was so excited about your announcement, but now I'll take a brief moment to tell everyone how great it truly was!

I was allowed to be backstage before the show started(I have connections) and everyone was so nice to me! Mil (bluedog, she likes that nick name) introduced me and explained our PC bond. However none of this prepared me for the level of talent that these people possesed! I wouldn't have missed this for the world!

Everyone could sing and they danced and I was blown away. It was everything Mil hoped it would be and I'm so glad they captured it on film. You guys are gonna' love it!

I have to make this short because I don't want to make us late for dinner.

Once again Paul: congratulations!!!!!!!!

p.s. Tim Baby where are you? I'm thinking of you and don't make us worry too much.

Michelle,
Chris will undoubtedly be impressed to hear that, ...YES, we do indeed have the WWF on TV. It's on Foxtel (pay TV). I've never actually watched it, but please don't tell Chris.
I understand that this is important.
Personally, I've never recovered emotionally from Hulk Hogan's retirement.

Hi Katalina. I'll have to wait for Chicago to come out on video. Perhaps I'll save it for my retirement.

PAUL. I'M SO THRILLED FOR YOU. I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT AND WOULD DO IT. I'm so very happy for you and your family. Your wife is going to feel it and your kids are going to get to watch you do what you do so incomparably well. Well DONE. I can't say enough how happy I am for you. You so deserve it. Now you have to let me know when it will actually hit stage. I WILL BE THERE. You'll have to tell me where to stay and all that. And I trust you'll get me a backstage pass just to say Hi..right? just kidding not pushing my luck. But you can bet your ass I'm going.

Sorry I haven't been on guys. Didn't mean to worry anyone. Just going through a lot of junk. Now that I've seen Paul's successful post...I'm not depressed anymore. There is a God.

Aunt Mil
I'm so proud of you too. I know it was a huge success. I thought of you...sending positive vibes as hard as I could.

Gosh I was so completely beyond blah when I got home..but know I feel like dancing...

And thanks so much for the personal post Paul. That really means a lot. You have no idea. And yes my recital is coming up May 31. Last night we went through our number about 3 or 4 times. I'm actually getting it. It's amazing. 42 and I'm tapping like crazy. We do turns and one little piece where we stand on one toe and jump over...My fat ass can actually do it. The girls cheered me on when they saw it.

Muy Bien...Muy Bien.

Love to everyone...and congrats again to our superstars here on the board.

Cat Cat Cat skipping posts?? I was wondering where you were?! Glad to have brought good news to all.

Tim glad to hear youre not depressed anymore, glad to hear that my news has bought a smile to your day. And Grand Ma Mil's news as well. As we both know we have to constantly deal with the good the bad and the hard so my friend keep a smile on your dial and each day will be a little easier!

OKAY, SO I'M A LITTLE LATE GETTING THE NEWS, AND WHAT GREAT NEWS IT IS.
This is fantastic, but we all knew you would be and this is just the stepping stone to something bigger, I'm sure. Knock thier socks off!!!!
Whit, Mil, El: Glad to hear that you are having such a wonderful time.
To all here at PC, Get your stuff together and get your taxes done. You have exactly 1 month in the US to get them filed. Also make sure you put your Paychecks in the Bank, if you don't, it makes a big mess of things.
It is 11p.m. here and I've been home about 30 minutes and the cat has already announced that it is past her bedtime. With the day I've had, it's past mine too.
Hugs to all, specially to Paul and Family, Tim sounds like you could use a little squeezing too.
Things are looking up all over, now if Tony Blair and GWB can keep us out of war with the idiot in Iraq we will all breathe easier.
Congrats again to Paul and Millie for their wonderful accomplishments this week.
Hugs all around,

Bluedog--I did some searching, and the musical characters are mostly different from the movie characters.

Paul--does Ethan have an analogous character in the movie?

In the movie, that was Guy.

Glad to hear from you again, Kay Lynne.

Yes. I miss the Goddess, too. Where be you, Dhianna?

Tim, when we meet you can show me how to tap my sizable behind off. I tried a tap class at CalArts. Too tense, I guess you'd say.

What was that, Paul? Ethan is the guy with the big — —— tattoo? Ooooh, baby!

I'm off to get a few hours rest before I hit the road for Sacramento. Political convention time! Yipeee.

Have a great weekend, Ya'll!!!

Posted by: Diane on March 14, 2003 02:52 PMfrom IP: 24.126.195.102

Dearest Paul,

When Whit and I learned of your success in securing the role of Ethan, we were filled with such joy...we started thinking of making a trip to Sydney to see you in the role, but I'm afraid I'm too arthritic to make such a long flight.

I will have to leave it to the youngsters to go to Sydney see you, and just be satisfied knowing that you will be a hit, and that will undoubtedly lead to other great projects!

Timbo, glad all is well, and that you are busy with your dancing...good for you! I would have used you in my show! "Follies" is over, but the magic lingers on, with flowers, calls and emails of congratulations, and people just generally raving about the sights and sounds of the production. Our big cast party is the end of the month, and I know the cast and I will have a ball just recalling those special moments!

Today Whit and I are going to the women's fitness center here in our community, go with Ellie to see "Chicago", go out to eat (chicken wings for me) and then spend the evening watching "Strictly Ballroom" on DVD at home.

Tomorrow Whit has an early flight back to West Virgina. She's been an absolute delight..she has taken loads of pictures, and maybe with Evelyn's help, we can post them on the Internet.

Love,

Grandma Mil

If I remember correctly, the gentleman with the large attribute is also the one who has two left feet?

Posted by: Kay Lynne on March 14, 2003 08:30 PMfrom IP: 67.25.14.75

Good morning Paul and All!

Mil is an early riser so when I got up I found her already in Paul's Corner. I'm telling you, the phone has been ringing off the hook since the show. Everyone has given her follies rave reviews! I'm glad to know she's appreciated and loved in her community as well as ours.

Dinner last night was great and, of course, she has wonderful friends! As she mentioned in her post, we're going to check out the fitness center, but I promised Elie that I won't let her over do it. I told Mil we might just go look at the workout equipment and that got a hearty laugh. Unfortunately, we can't stay in shape that way!

Tim, I'm glad to read your post. You did have me a bit worried. You're not the silent type. I wish I could see you tap, but I'll be working. However,I promise to be there in spirit with the rest of our family here at Paul's Corner.

Love to everyone,
Whit

Paul, you have no idea what a positive spark your news triggered for me yesterday. It just was the beginning to a fantastic day!!! Thank you!

And those of you missing Dhiana, if I remember this correctly, she should be in Florida right now with her band and also visiting her Mum, I think. She said something to that end a while back, but darn it, I miss her to! Where art thou Dhiana? And when will you join us again?

Tim, I'm glad you are okay, I had wondered too. And darn it, I want to see your show too!!!! May 31, hmmm, that's right after Mum visited, thus technically speaking possible. She just booked her flights today and is coming for 2 1/2 weeks in May, she will be there for my graduation ceremony and my final oral exam ever as a student, yeah, I'm doing it in that order, graduating before I take my final exam. Grin! I already banned Mum from asking me any questions at my final exam, before or after is fine, but not during. She might just do it anyway, Mum's ...but I'm very excited that she's coming to share that part of my life with me, in person and I get to celebrate her 65th birthday with her in person. Last time I was there on her birthday must have been in 1991. :)

Grandma, I'm looking forward to putting Follies 2003 up on the web for you, when do we start ??? Can you tell I'm excited about this? :)

Cat, Paul, thanks for clarifying who exactly Ethan is. I too got lost between the film and stage version differences while trying to figure this out last night. And as I've never seen "The Full Monty" ....... I know what I'll be doing this weekend :) Yeah, yeah, I have a lot of catching up to do in English language films / movies / musicals etc. just give me some time.

Off to another happy, exciting day!

Good morning Paul and All! For the past four days I've had the priviledge (sp?) of saying good morning to Grandma Millie in person. I have to jump on a plane this morning and she hates to say goodbye, but I reminded her that she "sees" me every day on Paul's Corner, so it's not realy goodbye!

Yesterday we saw Chicago on one of the largest screens I've ever seen! I loved it! Then she and Eliot treated me to yet another meal at her favorite restaurant. She had the wings of course! Everything was great. When we got home she showed me some video footage of dancers doing the routines from "Chicago" in true Foosie(sp?) fashion. She has a massive collection of films and I call the room that houses it her "screening room". I'm telling you, she should have been a film editor. She has a real talent for it!

Of course we watched SB to finish off our visit and I enjoyed seeing it with her so much. This has been such a nice time; being with her and El feels like home to me. Right now I can hear her making me a copy of a short video montage of dancing movie footage that she put together for her granddaughter's Bas Mitzvah (sp?). The soundtrack she chose was an ABBA tune (I love them): "Dancing Queen". It all goes together perfectly. What a lucky granddaughter she has! At the beginning of the tape, there's the traditional mgm logo of the roaring lion, but instead of the kitty, Millie's in it's place and she roars! It is so cute! I wish everyone could see it.

Before I go, I want to tell Evelyn how thrilled I am for her. I'm glad your mum will be there to witness your graduation ceremony. I can just imagine how proud she'll be! I too attended my ceremony for my MA before I was officially finished. That's just the way it worked out. Oh, and I saw the lovely watercolor you sent Mil and El for their anniversary. It's beautiful, and of course, it sits in a place of honor!

And Katalina, why not do your "horn hair" image in both mediums? Draw first and then do it in clay. I can't wait to see it! Just have fun!!!

Damaris, I too hope the kids are well soon.

Paul, you must be proud to have been chosen for such a "large" role;). Millie was trying to explain the character to me before I read the posts on the topic and I thought it was the other side of you that would be showcased (as in Exit to Eden). She finally stated just what part of your anatomy would be reviewed and hearing her say it made us both chuckle. Of course that doesn't dampen our enthusiasm one bit! another door has opened for you and I know this'll lead to yet another!

Well, I'm signing off. I want to spend more time with Mil before I have to go.

Love to all,
Whit

Hi Paul

Glad to hear that you feel the role is good for you and that you have now accepted it.

I've seen your efforts over the last year -
If you put in half this effort in your new role then I know you will woh them !

Dear Paul,

My name is jane and I'm eleven years old. I'm also a character in a book. The lady who made me up wanted to thank you for... sort of... letting yourself hang out to dry...in front the whole world. It's helped her understand men. It's refreshing to see a grown up who doesn't hide behind anything. Your blog reminds us that the deepest principal in human nature is the craving to be appreciated. I admire your intelligence and gutsy-ness. You piss and moan alot, but you don't give up.

I'll pass along some words passed to me ..as you begin again to follow your bliss:

"Taking care of myself doesn't necessarily mean me first; it just means me too."

"It's ok to look back, just don't stare."
"When in doubt try gratitude"

"Gratitude is not just the greatest of all
virtues, but the parent of all others."
"love is the only sane and reasonable answer to the insanity of human existance"
"'The world is too dangerous for anything but truth, and to small for anything but love"

Whitney...Glad you are back home safe and sound! I did preview your website and you have some great stuff. Looks like you work in various media: fiber art, metal, etc. Sometime pick a work and email me all its history, including size. Think of contacting the Oxmans - they're nice people.

Paul and everyone...I am always much more comfortable offering support and encouragement than asking for it. BUT this site has so much dynamic positive energy, I am hoping to channel a little of it in my direction. I have an opportunity to interview with a big fat client. Getting this client may be more of a curse than a blessing but I still want to go for it. So I hope Paul does not mind if I borrow some of the “force” on Tuesday morning.

One of Paul's students just made an entry in the guestbook. It's really very sweet.

Welcome John G & Janie. Janie, you really are only 11? Wow!

Good luck Linda and may it turn out to be a blessing and not a curse. Keep a positive view point about it.

Welcome home Whit, and hi to Cat and Katalina, Damaris (hope the kids are doing better), Michelle, Cassandra, Paul, Tim, Peter and everyone else.

Hi all in the PC. And yes..may the 'force' b w/ya. lol. That was a good analogy for this board's great energy. lol

Just got back from first (Argentine) tango lesson with Sonny Newman & group in Seattle, WA. My goodness. What an interesting history and complex, sensual dance (& the music too).
I was a bit shy at first, nervous around new people - but worked through it.
As i usually pick up dance easily, this was different for me...I'd say I got about 75% of the basics down, which was disappointing for me because I thought I was a natural at picking dance up quickly (not such a steep learning curve)..but, this was incredibly humbling for me. But, I like to challenge myself (and can take the criticism/the humbling lol)...so it was a very good experience.
The class moved fast...in choreography- which for a beginning level surprised me...but Sonny expects a lot (self-admittedly) from his students and is a tough taskmaster, witty, charming...kind...but rarely hands out compliments unless U r doing superb (so it was said). So..that's good, I think. We're expected to attend the milongas (dances for practice and socializing), and for me --tonight is the first one...(they go kinda late...this one from 7:45p - midnight; the ones on Fri nights are from 9p - 4am) I wasn't planning on going until a few more classes...but may end up doing just that because I lost time to practice the more technical embellishment (ochos/carridas)steps taught today because I rotated into dancing with a couple other beginner partners (he rotates everyone after every step taught/practiced) who were still on basic steps - ones that I had understood and moved beyond/ready for more...but as a "follower" was stuck following even tho I wanted to practice the more difficult moves..So now I understand why it's impt to go to those social practicas...I think for me that will be impt because, since i cannot lead...i'll probably improve with more experience and more partners...I'm thinking.. It was a good class. Received some good feedback and a few compliments..but I'm sure they were just being nice and encouraging...I think it's a go. I think this style of dance is something worth examining in greater depth..*grinn*

I'm cramping now...in my left toes..used to get that from swim practice when starting up a new season's workout.. I call them "elf toes" because they curl up and apart and it's pure agony for several minutes despite massage, etc... I think someone told me it was a vitamin or potassium deficiency...(I'll go eat a banana) I think it's related to using my muscles/feet in a new way, or just getting back into shape or something...

Anyway guys...hope everyone is well and had a nice weekend.

That was a great guest book entry Cat. Thanks for pointing it out. It seems our Paul is getting recognition from every corner! He deserves it!!!!!

Linda, you're right about the materials. For me, that's one of the main appeals of sculpture; anything goes and everything has a life of its own. Inherent charactristics become a part of your artistic vision. I'll check out your friends site for sure.

I'm keeping this brief. Thank you Katalina for welcoming me home. Now I have three: mine, Millie's and Paul's Corner. Thanks again for doing this site Cat!

Love,
Whit

Oops! May "the force" be with you on Tuesday morning Linda. I'm putting in a special request.

Good night Millie.
Good night Paul and all.

Welcome Janie, and thankyou for those very wise words.

Welcome also John G. Thankyou for taking the time to read the board and being a part of it.

As for the comment in the guest book - it is really gratifying. Just knowing that one makes a diference. When I was at my high school drama classes we had professional teachers coming in and working with us and I - in fact all of us got a lot out of those experiences. So the full circle has come around and now I am the teacher. I hope I can give, share, extend knowledge, wisdom and experience like my teachers did. And I hope that the young men and women can take something away with them that will affect thier lives in really positive ways - like it did.

Hey Paul,

Congrats on the great news.

Sorry I haven't been around in a while. Been super busy with a couple projects and the bill paying work.

I'm so glad that you finally have triumphed!!! You deserve it. I hope someday I have as good news too!!!

I just have to try and catch up with the posts and all - I'm starting to feel like I've been away from a REALLY long time!!!

Seriously, I've missed you all!

I'll try to keep up :) The comments here are so much more intelligent than the crap I have to deal with everyday...

Take care all -

Charlie

Paul, will you have to strip naked in that play? I bet it would sell out if you did.

Paul, you already have made a difference in the person's life who posted in the guestbook, an indication that this is true for some of the other students as well. Be proud of yourself and that accomplishment as well. Unfortunately--in my teaching experience--very few actually take the time to thank their teachers, but I suppose on some level that is life, so savour this one even more. I'm sure you deserve all this praise and then a lot more. PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE for Paul.

Hi Charlie, glad you are still around and doing okay. Waiting for your good news ... I hope success will come to you in your writing career, and soon!

Welcome to Cassandra, John G., Janie, and Raina.

Sending out success vibes to you, Linda!

Nice to hear from you again, Charlie. Missed you.

Damaris, I hope your kids recover quickly and that you stay well.

Can't wait to hear about your graduation, Evelyn and your visit from your mom. So glad you can celebrate with each other.

Good night to you all.

ARGH! A bit slow on the uptake, I'm afraid. Paul, congratulations! What wonderful news! Grandma Mil, way to go on your Follies! Linda, I hope tomorrow morning goes well for you. Whit, glad you are home safe and sound, and that you and GM/GE had a good visit. Damaris, hope your kids are feeling better, and don't worry, you weren't the last! (ahem...) Tim, glad to hear you are feeling a bit better than you were before. And a warm howdy to the rest of the family! :) Since it's spring break for both me and my daughter, she's keeping me hopping and I probably will not be around too much for the next week...but I just HAD to pop in and say hello to everyone and CONGRATS to Paul!

Love, Mysti
