just to clarify

I have been offered a role in the Full Monty. I have not accepted yet.

The process of reading a script and liking it , wanting to do it - then the process of establishing the terms of involvement in the production begin. There are many details to be worked out and many issues to be considered - with no offence there are too many - and they are of a private and personal nature - for me to openly discuss here. AND no I dont mean I can only have magenta cups in my dressing room with pictures of high powered motor cycles plastered on the dressing room walls - although that is no a bad idea.

It is about a win win negotiation that embodies the spirit of creativity balanced with the realities of any commercial relationship. That is my view but not one always held with those that hold the purse strings. Thankfully that is why God in all her wisdom invented the ability to choose what steps we wish to take.

So the journey to the top of the next mountain begins.

I will keep you posted on the heights scaled.

I'm with Linda and it seems the roles that an actor picks are crucial to success.

However, I read an interview with Matthew Modine in which he revealed that he'd been offered the role that Tom Cruise played in "Top Gun". He turned it down for political reasons. Would he make the same decision now?

I've also seen actors who's careers didn't die after a bad choice and others who were derailed by one poor movie.

The movie version was good enough to attract Richard Carlyle to the role and I enjoyed it, so I'm guessing your qualms aren't moral. It's not too much to ask for a fair contract in your chosen profession.

Stick to your guns, but don't underestimate the value of just having done it if the right people are involved. Though I'm guessing you got screwed financially with SB, that was your first gig wasn't it? I'm sure you're a better negotiator now and I hope a profitable and just bargain can be struck.

If the production sucks, you can always quit can't you?

Opps! Was that William Carlyle?

Or is it Robert Carlyle? I guess I'd better do some surfing!

I agree with Linda and Whitney, Paul. You have to try to get the best mix of artistic and financial reward. I wish you all the best in your negotiations!
