Looking good, Paul!

Wish I was there...

Paul, this looks like a lot of fun! sorry to hear about your torn thing, how the heck did you do that? I hope you heal quickly and completely (and don't take 4 months to heal as I did with 2 back to back separate ionjuries, keeping my fingers crossed on that one) so that you can be mesmorized yourself and mesmorize everyone else in the process. Darn it, I wish I could see one of the performances.

Linda, good to hear from you and glad your recovery is going well. Keep it up!

Dhi, thanks for your good wishes for my job interviews I'm up to three now and all in one day. Sunday Dec. 28 will be a very long and exhausting day, but it's my chance to shine and nail all of them--I hope.

Hi Inn, thanks for your special hello in the other thread and a special hello to everyone here. Mmmh, making my all time favorite German Holiday cookie and the kitchen smells absolutely wonderful, which reminds me I need to check the batch in the oven.

Posted by: Evelyn on December 15, 2003 03:08 AMfrom IP: 128.101.254.17

Looks like a wonderful show and an ideal opportunity for you to shine. You're going to be fantastic Paul!

P.S. Hope the injury is healing swiftly.

Can anyone help? I can't seem to download the video clips. I was able to get the clips of Paul's films from the site so I'm puzzled.

Take care all

I didn't catch the injury Paul sustained. Can someone fill me in?

Posted by: Marge on December 15, 2003 06:37 AMfrom IP: 205.187.145.20

Hi Miss Marge,
Seems that Paul injured his thigh, and is resting right now. You really scared me for a minute Ev, when you said he had a "torn thing." YIKES!! They are in the same vicinity, BUT are entirely different boo-boos!! :-(

I'd say don't scare me like that, but I'm thinking the colour must be draining out of Paul's body parts when he reads that one!!! :-) Relatively speaking, he'll be grateful he just injured his thigh!! I envision the males here grabbing nether regions in a protective gesture right about now!! Must be a man's worst nightmare come true.

I'm keeping your sister and Paul's sister in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sending you hugs/kisses & crossing my fingers for you in your job search. You'll be great!!

Love to all for just being here.

J.

P. S. Gran Mil: Hope you and E. C. are well. Another snow bomb day here in N. Y.

Posted by: Janice Duke on December 15, 2003 07:06 AMfrom IP: 24.184.222.224

Miss Ev,
You speak German, so I'll explain which body part Paul did NOT injure: der Schwanz.

;-)

Hi Paul,
I saw your video, you are one funny man.
I wish I could see your performance. I know you'll be wonderful. How could you not.
I'm praying for your speeding recovery.

Janice: Reading your e-mail, I couldn't stop laughing. Can you imagine the look on Paul's face when he read that statement. Thanks for sharing.

Posted by: Patricia on December 15, 2003 09:27 AMfrom IP: 12.73.230.155

Thank god I didnt tear my Schwanz! I have tears in my eyes just reading about it!!

My thigh has a couple of little tears but it is on the mend. The tears are in the quad muscle by the way.

Having fun being funny, always wanted to do comedy and this one is great for that and my role role even more so. Singing is coming along but more on that later.

Posted by: Paul on December 15, 2003 03:35 PMfrom IP: 211.28.96.68

Now Paul, did you put an icepack on the region of the tears on your thigh? Ice and rest should do it, Nurse Grannie says. Just don't accidentally ice any of the other parts mentioned...

May I say that you have never looked as handsome as you do today in those ads for TFM?

We loved you in SB, but today, you have, may I say it, a radiance...you SHINE!

Janice, E.C. and I are okay, thank you. No snow in Florida, just a small drop in the temp, to 76,
and I'm not bragging, just the facts!

Peace and love,

Grandma

Posted by: Grandma Mil on December 15, 2003 04:57 PMfrom IP: 67.75.94.81

Oh man!!! I really did mean to type "THIGH" and didn't notice it until Janice poked fun at me--oh and by the way, Janice, I am fully aware of the differences, both linguistically and otherwise and in more than two languages too ... :-) okay, blushing now. Big upps! Sorry about that, Paul, and I hope your tears continue to heal. I'm really glad you are having so much fun with this show and I'm sure your singing is much better than you think it is. Enjoy it for all it's worth and sing your heart out.

Janice, I'll keep you updated on my sister after the 17th which is when she has the sort of more conclusive medical consultation and they take a look at all the results from a variety of tests they have done, but the overall impression now is that it is not cancer. Still leaves the question open what the heck is going on, but I guess we can't cross that bridge until we get to it.

Hello Gran, would you care to share some of your warm temps?

Mary, you might have problems with the video clips from the TFM, either because they are rather large clips and take a long time to download if you have to do this over a modem phone line, or the other problem could be that you might need a different player for viewing the video clips than you have on your computer. You might try viewing them on a different computer that's on a network with Ethernet connection or somewhere where you have high-speed internet access.

Hello Marge, Mary, Patricia, Michelle, Jenny, Sally C. Grandma, Janice and esp. Paul and everyone elso who stops by to read.

Posted by: Evelyn on December 15, 2003 11:39 PMfrom IP: 128.101.254.32

Hi Ev,
I'm thinking Freud would have something to say about your "slip." We girls can understand though as thigh & thing sound/look so much alike!! :-) You gave me the best chuckle of my day...Danke sehr.

Nurse Gran Mil: Good medical advice for Paul's quad tears. Ice, Motrin, & rest should help.

PJM, I hope you're remembering to warm up & cool down as they may help to avoid injuries. When you have a moment, please read the question my son, John Thomas, has for you at the end of the last thread. He's an Aries also as he was born on 23 March,(the happiest day of this Mom's life) & you on the 31st.

You have a great sense of humour on PC, so you should be luminous on stage. TFM will be as special as you are. Just keep on keeping on!!

Ev: I look forward to hearing about your sister & I'm keeping good thoughts for you. Glad to hear that you're up-to-date linguistically & "otherwise." And in more than two languages too!! You're my hero!! I'll trade you language lessons for anatomy lessons anytime ;-) Nothing makes me blush. I've been in medicine far too long for that!

I've seen every kind of tear including quad tears, and yes schwanz tears. You're so right PJM, it's enough to make a grown man tear up and cry like a baby. I don't have that body part, but I had sympathy pain in that area for the poor SOB.

Patricia: Laughter is a great gift is it not?? I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall when Paul was reading that we were discussing his body parts. I'm sure some of the tears he had in his eyes were from laughing right along with us.

It's a three toupee alert here in New York, as it is extremely windy!! I'm glad I'm off this week, so I can clean, decorate for the holidays, and wrap, wrap, & wrap some more gifts!!

Brian: WOW!! A woman who sews & double clutches sounds like a keeper to me. God only knows I can't do either!! Your parents are right in saying that you are a lucky guy!! If she wasn't married to you, I just might marry her myself.
:-) Every wife needs a wife, I say.

Mary: All the video clips worked for me, so I'll defer to Ev's guidance above.

Well, the kid and I are going to hospice's Christmas party on Weds. night, and he's making sure that his outfit complements mine in color. Then again, he's been color co-ordinated since he was 5. When he was little, my Mom said she'd put him to bed. She came down 2 hrs. later saying, "it took him 1 & 1/2 hrs. to match his shirt, jeans, and socks for school." Thank God his underwear is white, or I'd be up there for another hour with him!!" Great story about a great kid. I'm the most blessed of Moms.

Till the next time, PC:

Elbows up, head high, & feet moving forward.

Sorry, I didn't mean to scare everyone with my question about Paul's injury. I just couldn't find the original comment. Love and Peace, Marge

Posted by: Marge on December 16, 2003 01:34 AMfrom IP: 199.182.74.168

Hello to Paul and all the other wonderful, wise, witty people here! I've missed visiting this site. Best wishes for a speedy recovery on that thigh, Paul. Linda, glad to hear you are recovering, if even slowly. Sometimes, we just need to slow down.

Evelyn and Janice, thanks for the comedy routine. Evelyn, I still have Iris in my thoughts and prayers. I'll be having minor outpatient surgery on Wednesday, but I'll gladly shift my focus to her consultation and project a good outcome, while the podiatrist works to correct a hammertoe condition that has been very painful.

I'm having the same problem viewing the video, also, Marge. I'll have to get my tech-brained husband to help me. Maybe the application that runs it is not functioning.

Welcome to JJ, David, and Bill. I enjoyed reading your thoughts in the last thread. I have that fear of sudden death, also, JJ. Beyond the ability to say goodbye, I think that for me, there must be some other explanation for the heightened concern.

Happy Birthday, belatedly, Brian. Good for you and your family. It sounds like you've chosen to follow your heart with due consideration to the practical aspects. In the brief 6 weeks that I've been consulting with parents and children on tutoring needs, I've met several parents who are deciding to pull back on work and forfeit the extra income it brings in order to spend more time with their sons and daughters. That's a good sign.

I've been very busy with the business — which is good; but a challenge and tiring. Learning as we go; making corrections as we rethink our approach and the mechanics of daily operations; hitting some of the same problems other businesses experience. Now I just need to find the schedule that can work for me. As it is, I work 7 days a week, frequently for 10-12 hours, just trying to keep the business, the city service committment and the family/home all in balance. I am reaaaally looking forward to next week, when things should be much quieter.

Hugs to Sally, Michelle, Jenny, Tim, Millie, Peter and all the rest of yuz!

Love,

Diane

Paul...I wish you a speedy recovery as well. And I wish the best to you and your family.

Brian, I guess the good part of this little corner is to give and get feedback. Its a positive thing and you reminded of it. I don't know you from Adam and maybe I was a little harsh but if you can take some time off to spend some quality time with your family and to RR from the workforce, and you're not putting your family in financial jeapardy than I don't blame you. Next time time its your turn to do a little critiquing. My best to you, your wife, and kids.

Ok who's next, Grandma Mil. My last day on this contract assignment is Dec 31 and if I remember you mentioned the talent show comming up in January. I hope to be there and with my husband and maybe a few neighbors. My uncle is too busy these days unfortunately but fortunately for him he's spending most of his days testing out his girlfriends new theraputic Jacuzzi.

Linda, hope your back feels better soon!

Take Care All,

Good morning to All!

For Marge and anyone else having trouble watching The Full Monty videos from the link, try opening the link by first launching Internet Explorer. I generally use Safari and that wasn't working; but Explorer should do it for you.

And the videos are very nicely produced, too! It looks like so much fun, Paul. Mend quickly and break a leg! (I sure hope that's still the universally recognized way to wish performers success, because the only thing I truly hope you break is box office records.) I'll be raising a glass to you on opening night.

Best to everyone!!!

Diane - wishing you continued success with the business. This is the hardest part - the initial push, putting yourself out there. It'll be worth it. Hope you find your rhythm soon. Good luck!

Evelyn - hope you get the best outcome with your interviews on the 28th. Thanks for the tips about the video clips. Still no success. I have high-speed internet access alright and the problem doesn't seem to be the player. (Thanks again Janice.) Diane - I'm going to give Internet Explorer a go like you suggested. Here's hoping!

On a completely different note - I was reading a book on Astrology today and came across a description of the Fire signs (Paul's sign Aries being one of them). It described people under these signs as 'people with a powerful magnetism and an almost insatiable zest for life. They thrive on work, action, innovation and challenge and they are often among the great leaders, explorers, athletes and artists of the world. At their best they benevolently and selflessly draw others in to share the gifts of their intoxicating light.'

How accurate is that???

Wishing everyone here well
Mary

I finally got TFM loaded. I took over an hour, but was worth it.

Take a power nap once in a while. Lie flat on your back and relax, starting from your toes. Take ten deep breaths and count slowly as you do. Clear your mind of everything, fill your mind with a single object, cloud, color, etc. I have been doing this for forth some years. I can power down in about two minutes and go into just below That was another teacher that left an impression on me. It has stayed with me ever since. It takes practice, but I have done it for many years

As for "der schwanz" my husband had a wonderful sense of humor. His was "Big Jim and the Twins".

Site is great. Haven't had the opportunity to see any of the videos yet..not sure if my computer can handle it...it may have a melt down huh? : ) It's so old at this point.
Sorry to hear about your injury Paul. Take care and do as the Dr. orders. They'll need you on stage!!!

Hope everyone is doing well. Atlanta is typical for itself. UGH..but I'm here.

Diane, how did your surgery go today? Hope you are fine and in no pain. thought about you during the day.

I also wanted to thank all of you for thinking about my sister, she left me a phone message earlier today and told me that they finally ruled cancer out and that she's fine. No concerns, no need for follow up tests, treatments etc. I'm a bit surprised by that, but am loving the fantastic news!!! Haven't heard my sister that happy and free in a long time and that was priceless. :-)

Best wishes to all!

Linda and Evelyn, thank you for your well wishes. So glad to hear the wonderful news, Evelyn. I did think about Iris while I was in the outpatient center. I thought about the uncertainty she's had to face all these months. I thought about Linda's recent surgery and another friend's back surgery last week.

Then I started wondering if I really needed my surgery. It was like the feeling I get when I've scheduled a hair appointment but my hair suddenly looks like it doesn't need a cut. Before I could chicken out, they wheeled me into the operating room and the anaesthesiologist knocked me out. Now, 8 hours later, I'm feeling a little discomfort so I'll go elevate and ice the foot. The doctor just called to check in and I find that l'm stunned that he would demonstrate such concern. I am pleased to have physical justification for moving at a slower pace.

I'll have all good thoughts wafting to you, Evelyn, as you head into those interviews. I predict victory across the board!

Love to ya'll!

Diane

Dear Paul,

Hope you're on the mend! We're all counting the days, can't wait!

Evelyn, that's marvelous news about your sister Iris, so happy for her, and you and your family! Christmas seems to have arrived a bit early in your hearts!

Diane, hope you're feeling better. You're very brave to elect to have the surgery done, but guess it was necessary to aleviate the pain and discomfort. Now you'll probably be able to wear all kinds of shoes, including those infamous high heels, right? (Doctors always claimed they were the cause of many foot disorders. If I had my way, I'd wear sneakers all the time, even on dress-up occasions!) Also, good to hear that your new business is going well! Congratulations!

I've noticed that since I lost 24 lbs. my shoes either fit better, or don't fit at all. I was walking across the stage heading for the microphone stand, when one of my shoes started to slip off...I stopped, smiled at the audience for a moment, and pushed the foot into the shoe again and prayed I could get off the stage...I can't wear those favorite shoes of mine anymore, but shouldn't complain..just visualize a 24 lb. turkey..without shoes!

Peace and love,

Grandma

Here are some serious notes for the Holidays. Hope you all have a great Christmas this year!!!

Thoughts To Share During The Holiday Season

Author Unknown

Make the little decisions with your head and the big decisions with your heart.

If you depend on others to make you happy you’ll be endlessly disappointed.

Fill your life with experiences not excuses.

If you wait until all the conditions are perfect before you act, you’ll never act.

Love may break your heart but it’s worth it.

We are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

Treasure your children for what they are, not for what you want them to be.

A good feeling gets even better when it’s shared.

Trust is the single most important factor in both personal and professional relationships.

You shouldn’t do anything that wouldn’t make your mother proud.

You shouldn’t expect life’s very best if you’re not giving it your very best.

Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb; that’s where the fruit is.

Dreams come true for those who work while they dream.

Do for others with no desire of return favors. We should all plant more trees that we’ll never sit under.

We can’t do much about our looks but we have control over the kind of person we become.

True wealth is what you are, not what you have

Good news on the board, with a small exception of Paul's injured thigh. I'm sure that the Doc. has you all lined out for recovery.

If any of you remember, a couple of months ago I mentioned that I might audition for the local theatre's musical. I did and I got a non-singing part. (Mature woman, bla bla bla) But I will be cutting a rug as I get to dance the "Charleston" and the "lindy" as well as the "foxtrot". The director told me that I would be in a corset, and I needed some character shoes. I told her that every pair of shoes that I had were for a "Character"

It's windy in Arkansas, and we are getting parts of Oklahoma!

Millie, Julie, and Janice, thank you for your healing thoughts.

Congratulations, Millie! I haven't been able to wear heels higher than 2 inches for a few years. I'm sure my weight hasn't helped; but I'm working on that. As you described your loose shoe on the stage, I remembered dancing across the stage as an angel in the first grade play and stopping to retreive my slipper then joining back in the dance. Got a chuckle from the audience and I was hooked! One of those treasured memories.

Congratulations on your role, Mary Ellen. Save for a couple of parts, I usually played mature characters even as a 'teen.

Thanks, Marge for the "Thoughts...".

Calm, warm holiday thoughts to you all. Oh, Millie, do you have a good recipe for latkes? I usually cheat and use the boxed stuff; but my in-laws sent us a genuine latke plate this year and I feel I should do the gift justice by making the real thing.

Posted by: Diane on December 19, 2003 02:28 AMfrom IP: 24.130.221.100

Diane, dear, your latke recipe is on its way..I am so clever, I went to Google.com and found a recipe that sounds like the one my mother used, and she was a wonderful cook, her specialty being matzo balls and latkes, but not as the same time, however.!

She had no food processor for grating the potatoes, used her hand grater (a "ribison") and never hurt her knuckles!

Enjoy Hanukkah, with love and peace to everyone, whether you like latkes (potato pancakes) or not.

Top them with sour cream or applesauce, and for those, those, like me, who are dieting, forget it, and eat a salad instead!

Dear Grandma Mil

You sound like a wonderful full of life person. I am a grandma myself, but my own Grandma was my hero. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of her. She died at the age os 93 in 1978. She instilled in me good values of life when I was growing up. My own parents were never there for me. Where can I find your picture? Love and warm thoughts. Marge

how could any of us forget granny mil's birthday after last year? I'm digging out my party hat and getting ready to rock...hell it's probably more like roll!! But I'll give it a shot...

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm potato pancakes... I swear I can smell them...my childhood was up north...yep, evie, in brrrrrrrrrrrr Minnesota...and in a Norwegian/Swedish community... they weren't called latkes but were somewhat similiar...

memory recall - anyone ever heard of lutefisk and lefse? seems you either love or hate lutefisk - there was no in-between!!!

Hi Bluedog,
If memory serves me correctly, that hot Scandanavian delicacy, Lutefisk, is codfish soaked in lye! mmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmm GOOD!! It made my relatives, the Vikings, meaner than hell & now I know why!!

Oh, dear, how you lovely people do go on...(I sound like Scarlett O'Hara) but it's true, dear Timmer and Bluedog, this old gal is having another senior moment...another birthday, a year older (71) and glad to celebrate, but it's not until January 20, so I'm still 70, don't rush it!

Marge, last year was so terrific and unforgetable. It was my birthday, and my "stud muffin's" (my hubbie Ellie) and my 50th wedding anniversary...everyone on PC was so sweet, and Paul even raised a glass of Cooper's in a toast and threatened to dance with me, but I had to decline...my arthritis, you know, but secretly, I can't dance...

If you want to see the "old" me (I have since lost 24 lbs.) I would refer you to the beautiful website that Evelyn and Whitney set up for Ellie and me, and the variety show, "Follies 2003" that I produced and directed.

Whit came from WV to meet us, and took pictures backstage...it was truly a marvelous experience.

Just remember, however, that since the pictures were taken, I have lost that weight, and when you see me, you'll understand why I decided to go on a big diet after the festivities were over!

Below is the website address that Evelyn and Whit
collaborated on. Click on "gallery" and enlarge the thumbnails. It covers the backstage pictures, plus pictures of our large family,(we have 3 daughters, 12 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren) of Whit and us, and even Evelyn has superimposed her picture among us! You'll even see the inside of our condo where Whit slept (in our den, among "the stars"..as Whit proclaimed) where I produce a video concert using scenes from 500 tapes that you will see on the shelves.)

(Thanks again, Ev and Whit) Aren't you sorry you asked, Marge? (Just kidding!)

Peace and Love to all my darling chickies in my den...oops, "in my pen."

I think it's wonderful that you have a full life and enjoy the internet so much. I tried your correct website, but I could not find the little squigglely thing. Help!
Even though I am a young 64, I too have senior monents.

Posted by: Marge on December 19, 2003 11:31 PMfrom IP: 205.187.132.115

Marge, the squiggly thingy is on the top row of your keyboard, (not the F rows) left last key,
shift ` to ~ (below Esc) Yes, you are a young 64, so you are entitled to have senior moment whenever you wish!

Innussiq, thank you for that compliment..it made my day, especially when I haven't lost a pound in
four days. When my stud muffin, (your label) or E.C. (eye candy, Janice's label) married me 50 years ago, I was a size 12, but if I ever reached that number again, the medics would have to come and get me, God forbid!

Peace and Love, have a great weekend everyone.

Hello All!

grandma Mil never feel bad about having a senior moment. I have them to and I'm only 29.

Well not much else going on in my part of the world. Gosh how boring is that. I have to go out this week-end and do something exciting so I can have something intesting to post next time on PC.
Plus I need material for my next article in the community newsletter. I'll probably go on a biking excursion with my husband by the beach. Oh listen to me blab on. Talk about stream of consciousness!

Still working on my screen play. I would like to have permission from Grandma Mil and Stud Muffin if I can use them as characters for one scene I'm working on.

Stay well everyone!

Posted by: Julie on December 20, 2003 02:11 AMfrom IP: 65.123.233.210

Julie, it's fine with me and Stud Muffin if you use us as characters in your screenplay, for you have met us, and just don't we remind you of Bogart and Bacall or perhaps, Scott and Fran?

Looking forward to having you and your friends come to my video concert, "Sights and Sounds" on Jan. 6th (Tuesday) or Jan. 8th (Thursday) It is my 9th year celebration show...will talk to you later.

Ellie and I just lighted the first lights of Hanukkah and we want to wish all our friends on
PC a bright holiday season with peace and love.

Janice, I managed to get some snippets of music, and it was truly awesome! No big concert orchestra needed! Maybe a synthesizer was used, along with the cello, right?

To Paul: All our best to you, Andrea, and the girls, as you embark on your new journey starting New Year's Eve with the opening of "The Full Monty" in Melbourne.

We will all be waiting to hear about your success, and wishing that we could be there to be part of that standing ovation that you so richly deserve, not only as a talented actor but as a person with outstanding attributes that have inspired us.

Cat, thank you for giving us the opportunity to meet Paul and to foster friendships with him and each other on PC through your beautiful website.

And to all, I say, "..you'll never know how much I love you.."...and, "..may your days be merry and bright, and may all your Christmases be white."

My friend of 32 years, Edward Sullivan, died unexpectedly last evening. He was a lovely husband, wonderful Dad, and special to all to had the gift of knowing him. He touched all who knew him, especially the high school kids who he taught throughout the years.

I remember how he overtly cheated at cards, and at any game we would play. His Carol and I would protest vigorously, and he would throw his head back. In gales of laughter he would say, "you girls are just sore losers!!"

I remember when we were on a bowling league together, and how each time I was about to throw the ball how he would yell "PIECE OF CAKE!!" He never ceased to startle me. You think I would have caught on after the first 50 yells. We did come in 2nd that year though. :-)

I remember how he had been drinking at our Christmas Eve party and how he danced alone in our foyer while singing "Pennies From Heaven" at the top of his voice.

I remember how he taught my son who was 12 at the time, the worst curse words imaginable!!

I remember how much I loved him. Always will. Thanks, Edward, for being my friend and for loving me even when I was unlovable.

I was going to stop by to see them this past Saturday, but changed my mind because I hadn't called first. I will now have to live with this regret.

Elbows are down, head is bowed, & feet are going no where.

Thanks PC for listening.

You have my deepest sympathies. Friends like that are so very hard to find and have had for any length of time in your life.
Your memories will carry you through...even though theimmediate pain is not so plesant. Don't rush your feet...they'll go where they need to when they need to. Grieve now as you should.
My thoughts are with you.

Aunt Mil..what a wonderful holiday wish..same to you.

What can I say?! Go get em. Make them stand up in awe at the end of the show. I (WE) all know you will.

Janice, I'm so sorry for you loss as well. That's tough, but don't beat yourself up over not making it there on Saturday, if you can, as you can't change it. The "I wish I had ..." thinking is a very powerful guilt mechanism, but so totally out of place right now (probably most of the time). Celebrate Edward's life while also allowing yourself to grieve. Here's a hug for you (HUG).

Tim, a little late, but I'm happy for you that you are able to enjoy hearing as much as you do!

Here's my Happy Holidays wish to all of you:

May you find inner contentedness in all that you do
May your dreams be bold, beautiful and courageous
May you find joy in unexpected beauty
May you find strength to weather life’s storms
May you find stillness and calm, simply to be, to breathe
to focus on what is important to you
May you always have laughter in your life
and when there are tears, let them be genuine
May you embrace life for all its possibilities, for all its gifts
which it offers you on a daily basis
May you live your life to the fullest
and love every moment of it

Dear Janice Duke

I am so sorry about your friend. W

When my husband was diagnosed with cancer I called his close friend and left a message for him about Larry. He was on a mototcycdle trip with his group and didn't get the message until he came back. The next call I made to him was just after Larry passed away. Again he was on a Mototcycle trip. He has been procrastinating and never came to see Larry.

He stood up at the memorial andsaid his regrets about not getting to see Larry. He stated that if you put off seeing someone, you will always feel that sorrow and guilt. I wrote him a note afterward and told him not to beat himself up over this. Larry wouldn/t have wanted it.

Don't do the if, coulda, woulda, shoulds thing. Remember you friend in a positive way and the good times you had with him. Remember him as he lived.

God Bless, Marge

Posted by: Marge on December 24, 2003 01:38 AMfrom IP: 205.187.135.12

Janice, I am sorry for your loss. Tim is right when he says that friends like that are hard to find. Your memories are a great tribute to his spirit and the time you have shared. I hope you can continue to take comfort in those thoughts. Take the time you need to grieve and don't apologize for it. I have to agree with Evelyn and Marge that guilt and reproach aren't helpful or productive; althought I will admit to indulging in that a bit as I remember a dear friend who passed with whom I had not fully mended a rift. But as I read your words, I started to wonder if perhaps you were guided away from Edward's home that day. Maybe he would not have wanted you to see him in poor condition, but rather to remember him in his full health. If we can believe that we are led away from a danger, toward a better choice, or into beneficial circumstances by some inner wisdom, surely that wisdom could have led you to make a choice that day that Edward would have prefered. You have my sincere sympathy, as well as daily hugs and prayers.

Evelyn, thank you for your lovely holiday wishes. Funny, I'm working on all those things.

Tim, I forgot to congratulate you on your improved hearing. Good for you! It's so nice to read your happy updates.

Millie and Elliott, thanks for the recipe and for your holiday wishes. We hope you continue to enjoy a good Chanuka. Mom and Dad told me the weather has been nippy lately in North Miami. Shalom to you and your family!

Shalom and Happy Holidays to Paul and Cat and their families and to all who gather here.

You have wonderful memories of him, so hold them close, and may they be an inspiration to all who knew and were touched by him.

Happy Hanukkah to you and yours, too, Diane.

North Miami, huh? Do you ever get down here to visit, hint, hint?? We could have a PC convention here, with Stud Muffin and me, Julie living nearby too, and anyone else who could fly down to enjoy the warmth that comes along in January...by the way, after a short cold spell, the visitors are wearing shorts and tee shirts again!

katalina, I have to admit I don't have to go far to get an Aussie adventure . My husband and I occasionally eat at this Irish pub down the street that caters to boat captains especially English, Irish and Aussie. It's an intersting mix especially when the English and Irish are in one room talking politics. The Aussies on the other hand are more interested in picking up American Women.

A PC convention would be super here in south florida! Let's face it, the weather is better here than most of the country these days.

Something magical just happened outside our home tonight. Every year the local volunteer fire department gets out all their equiptment and with lights flashing and air-horns blowing, drive Santa through the neighborhood. His elves collect cans of food for the needy and give candy canes to the children who come out to wave as he goes by.

My son-in-law knows one of the firemen and they arranged for Santa to make a special stop at our house tonight. My grandchildren, their friends, and some of the other kids on the block were invited to be with us when Santa came down the street. As the sirens got louder and louder, we gathered all the kids and went to the curb to wait. When the fire trucks got to our house, they stopped and to the kid's amazement, Santa got off the truck and started talking to them, calling them by name and giving each a small gift (which we had taken to the fire station beforehand). I will NEVER forget the squeals of joy and the looks on all their little faces as they jumped up and down waving to Santa as he started back up on the engine. One little girl grabbed his leg and yelled, "I love you, Santa" and then he was off to the next street.

I know what the meaning of Christmas is but I never felt it as much as I did tonight, watching those kids, our future, who still believe in magic, who still hope, innocent of tomorrow.

Happy Holidays to all the great people here.

Hey, what's wrong with a little extra protein in the latkes? Eh? Don't you remember our mother's telling us how they SLAVED over our meals, putting their blood, sweat, AND tears into them? (Gross!)

Hi everyone~
Sorry it's been a bit, but Life has it's way of, well...having it's way with us when it wants!

I've been practicing VERY hard at saving my energy for my immediate priorities, my little boys, my just-finished-finals and is now jobless (but has two degrees!) husband, my little farm and, oh yeah, my work. (Patooey!) The holidays came, I was prepared, I ENJOYED them, and still am. We're heading to my brother's tonight for a two-day get together over a few hills and through some woods, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Life's been throwing me huge philosophical Big Things(um, anyone read "The DaVinci Code" yet?) and I keep getting those pesky "messages" that what I know is "right"--at least for me--and if I wasn't QUITE certain, yet, BAM! Here's another flamboyant slap of reiteration! I'm getting beat up! But it's good.

ANYHOOBIES...Kat, ye olde eggnog is STILL brewing--from 7 days ago! Bourbon, eggwhites, rum, sugar, topped with REAL whipped cream and shaved nutmeg. Warms the cockles, and then some.

Oh, SPEAKING of...shwantzes and Jims...tsk tsk tsk...imagine ME missing out on this scintillating discussion. (Drats!)

Sally, the Christmas Magic is awesome this year...I made a HUGE boo-boo by forgetting to take the cards that my kids had made for Santa and hiding them away...I left them right where they were on the fireplace mantle! Gasp! "Mama, WHY didn't Santa take our cards? Didn't he LIKE them?" (Oh...I cringed...my HUSBAND, the cowardly bastard, starting walking into the other room and LEFT me stranded and struggling) So I explained how Santa obviously had READ them--they were rearranged in thenight by the cat knocking them over--phew!--and that he left them for the parents to tuck away in an underwear drawer for the morning of the kid's HS graduation, or as they leave for a trip to meet their new grandbaby, etc. (My husband has a new nickname by the way..."Dodger!" Wimp.) On the card, my 6yr-old wrote to Santa, "Have a Happy Christmas. Don't get a belly ache. I LOVE you."

Oh, and we also found out that the Tooth Faerie DOES, in fact, have a pact with Santa that if any 6yr olds loose teeth on Christmas Eve (he just HAD to bite that peanut brittle...just HAD to) that she has supplied him with a quantity of dollar bills wrapped in gold ribbon JUST in case some little child had the misfortune to actually EAT the yummy things the neighbors brought over. ;-)

So...that is what's going on from this end. Paul, good luck with your opening! I SO wish I could be there...in spirit, my friend!

All you other sick, aging, crazed, or otherwise illuminated folk, be good to yourselves!

Hugs,
D*
