never rains....
I have finished Dancing With The Stars. The series is finished and we have also shot two specials called "The Judges Verdict" The first special is on the boys from series one and two and then the second special is on the girls from series one and two. They give an insight into the judging and I guess the judges! I have also started shooting on a food and produce TV show for channel 7. It is called the Food Trail. I am the host and basically travel around Victoria looking at all the great produce and meeting with and talking to the people that are the driving force behind the scenes and about the produce and their work and lives. At the end of each episode I meet up with a local chef and together we make a dish each using the produce from the show. I am shooting this till the end of May. I have just finished shooting an episode and cooking with a chef. I was a bit nervous about it all especially as the dish I was cooking I had designed on paper but had not actually cooked it. Added to that was the increased pressure that the dish was to be served in the restuarant that night as part of the set menu!! To cut a long story short - the dish was really good and all the customers loved it! I will post it on the recipe section soon. Today I begin judging Dancing with the Stars in New Zealand. So I will be flying to New Zealand once a week for the next 8 weeks to do the show live on a Sunday night. I then fly back to shoot all week on the Food Trail. So I think over the next 7 weeks I will be working seven day weeks!! What a change hey:)!! Lastly - well the end of my news but not the last job - I have been offered a feature film shooting in July. It is a made for TV tele movie shooting over 16 days which they may take to cinema or may not. It was so good to be offered the lead role rather than having to go through the whole audition process. I am sure it will be fun. I cant tell you the story as I may ruine the twists and turns. Finally Dancing With The Stars in Australia are already planning the third series starting in mid October - so I have a job from then through to the end of November. Yihah! So from being a little bleak around Xmas/New Year things have certainly turned around and I hope will continue to keep going like they are. Now I am looking for a job for August and September and then as usual looking to the New Year for the next gig. Somehow I have to get out and keep selling my beer, get the right approval for my smoked meat product that I want to sell commercially and set up my beer cafe!!! We may have found a premise last week which is very exciting. I would keep writing, however I have to catch a plane in an two hours, the airport is just over half an hour away and I have to pack !! Hope all of you are well. Sorry I have not had time to catch up on all the goings on. I will have a little time on Sunday and hope to find an internet cafe in NZ and catch on all the news! Note: comments on old entries are closed. Please comment only on the current entry. Comments I'm getting the umbrella out!! What wonderful fantastic outstanding news! I very happy for you. The cooking show sounds cool. I can't cook worth a darn, so I'm always impressed by those who can. Remember to take a step back and enjoy. Time goes by to fast sometimes. You've got me in smiles :) Take care and a quick hug and kiss in congrats!. You are on your way in many areas, and the momentum can only continue into next year, and beyond as your name and reputation is once again in the public's eye! We admire you more than ever, Paul, for your courage and your determination during the lean times. Andrea and your family are undoubtedly very proud of you at this moment, as we all are! I only have one question. . . when will we here in the US get to see more of your work???? Or beer? (and heck I don't even drink beer as a rule, but I'm willing to give it a go! grin) Thank you for sharing you great news. I hope everything continues to pick up for you. Love to you. Brian, thank you as always for DWTS. I hope all is well with you and your family. Hello to everyone in the Corner. How are you all doing? Any chance we might see the cooking show here in America? Brian, thanks for the downloads. Great job, as always. Hi, Mary and everyone else here on PC. Be well. Fantastic news, Paul! Hey Paul, glad to hear ya' doing something incredibly fun and incredibly energy soaking. I've been going around your page in imdb.com and I strongly and highly suggest that ur agent or whoever is that puts the pictures of actors and actresses would add pictures of you. It would be interesting to see other pictures of you than the ones we have here in this webpage. It could increase your fanatic crowd and maybe open some things...who knows. Anyways, good luck with all you have planned and be carefull, don't forget that you have a heart condition and your pressure keeps rising with the more pressure u may have in the business. Well, take care and enjoy, I forgot to give you the webpage, just in case you haven't checked it out, which i highly doubt, or if anybody wants to see it, click here:http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0580527/ , and you'll see Paul's filmography and other cool stuff, which probably you've already seen. Take care, Paul, It all sounds fantastic. Paul, I'm so happy to know opportunities are coming your way. You deserve all of them and more. Good on you. I think that you set the tone for the judges -- toward the end of the first series the others were loosening up a bit, and they had all clearly adopted your less formal and more positive style in the second series. The show's success owes much to that. And thanks again to Brian for making possible for those of us on other continents to share in the fun. Laura Posted by: Laura on May 1, 2005 08:52 PMfrom IP: 216.8.169.209Just like any investment portfolio, diversification is the key. You have obviously found the key. Just keep doing what your doing and things will fall into place for you. Congratulations on the movie offer. Hope we will get to see it here in the U.S. The Food Trail sounds right up your alley, so to speak. Great to hear you so upbeat and happy. I'm sure that this all makes things wonderful at home as well. Andrea and the girls can't be any more proud of you than we are. Hugs to all This is all so very exciting!!! and I'm very happy for you!!! and I can only add my best wishes to you for all your projects. May they all come to fruition and great success!!! Reading your excitement and accomplishments gave my bluish, stressed out spirits a joyful boost!!! Thank you for that and to you best of luck for finding August-September employment! Posted by: Evelyn on May 2, 2005 07:12 AMfrom IP: 69.24.167.27Congratulations Paul! It sounds like you're getting a great momentum going. I think the food thing and the acting gig will stop DWTS from getting you (incorrectly) type cast as a dancer so "it's all good". Can you wriggle some cross promo for Merc's Own into the food show? Maybe you need to cook something in a peach beer batter? Hugs to everyone reading (even the lurkers)
Lurkers Unite! Now I feel the urge to post as well. Well thats how I ended up here. All because of my dismal spelling/typing skills. I couldn't agree with Brian more. Try to geta bottle of Merc's own on the table on the food show. Free publicity is priceless. Regards to all. I haven't been checking here for at least a month - it's so nice to read all the positive news. Paul you're on a roll for sure! Your whole family must be flying high right now (the only negative being that they won't be seeing so much of you for a while - but better a little time with a cheerful person than a lot of time with someone who's feeling down). And by the way, thanks for the free beer offer for pointing out that missing date on the Mercs Own site - sure wish I could afford to get there to claim it! Oh well, can only hope that the beer will be available in Canada sometime soon. But of course not nearly as fun as a holiday in Oz! Thanks for making the last 4 episodes of DWTS available. The whole series was fun to watch, but the last show was especially funny and sweet and emotional. Any chance you will be able to post the NZ show? Posted by: Wendy on May 5, 2005 12:31 PMfrom IP: 69.92.185.124Did anyone know that there is an easter egg on one of the versions of SB? I was doing a search for DVD easter eggs after showing one to my students on Finding Nemo. I guess it shows a deleted scene. I, unfortunately, have the wrong DVD of the movie. If you don't know what an easter egg is, it's hidden clips on DVDs. The fun people that make DVDs like to hide extra clips and you have to figure out how to find them. If you search "DVD easter eggs" on google you'll find some sites that tell you how to find them. If anyone sees the hidden clip - share what it is. Paul did you know it was there? Thanks to the support and generosity of the director/producer. - hey it makes a great story also. We travel to the brewery and watch me make a batch of beer and then after going to lots of great farms and produce places I go to this wonderful retreat called The Lake House and cook there with the owner chef. What do I make? A Mercs Own Red Pork and Pumpkin Curry! I will post the recipes that I do on the show to the recipe section when I get a chance (like in a month or so) but yes the beer has been featured. Having a great time doing the show. The other day I got to go to Mudgee and help crush a few tonnes of magnetite. It's not quite the same, is it? When is the show due to go to air?
Goodonya Paul! It's really good to see you in such high spirits. (Oops, was that a pun? :o)). Continued success and keep us posted. Hi to Peter and back at Inn. Tim, long time, no? Hey Mary. Big hello to all the de-lurkers and newbies. You'll like it here. Be well. Dear Paul, I always felt in my heart that you and Merc's Own would find an important niche on TV. Here in the US, cooking shows on TV are very popular, and popular chefs make millions with their personalities and their creativity with food. No violence, no hanky panky, at least not on screen, and even though the recipes are a little elaborate for us seniors, who love to eat out anyway, we are just a small percentage of the millions that watch these shows. Right on, Paul! Jill, I found that easter egg on my DVD copy of SB 2 years ago, and with stop action made a poster of the scenes, with captions. I will be happy to share it with anyone who is interested. I had the pictures in my computer for ages, and they are now on my email site ready to be sent. To all my FIF chickies: The multimedia auditorium where we saw Strictly Ballrooom in February, now has a 16'x 9' screen, new Dolby sound, and new VHS and DVD players. The screen is awesome, and last night, after showing my Sights and Sounds program, I slipped in my DVD of SB. I reveled in the look of the scenes..fantastic, just about as good as the day SB was released in the big theatres in 1992.

Posted by: tea on May 8, 2005 07:58 PMfrom IP: 24.9.210.56Paul, I am a first-time visitor to your site today, and came upon your blog. I tried to tear myself away several times (to take care of my own kids - we have 5!) but kept coming back to read more. I ended up reading the whole archive from front to back -today! It's overwhelming that an actor has chosen to be so open with his fans. Moreover, your writing is truly riveting in its passion and honesty. When are you going to write a book about all your fascinating experiences over the last two decades? I'm sure you'd enjoy great success in America and Australia with any book you might write about breaking into dancing & movies, the struggles and joys of a committed relationship, the trials of raising a family on an actor's wages, the challenge of channelling creativity into lucrative avenues, etc. Don't let anyone homogenize your writing. The best aspects of your posts & poems are your dark and brilliant ruminations on deeply personal subjects. You are truly an artist (and possibly a touch bipolar in the great tradition of Mozart, Hemmingway, Shelley, etc?). Anyway... DON'T be afraid of shocking and never stop creating in your various media. Many thanks for sharing. From, Shelb,
"The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this: A human creature born (extraordinarily) sensitive. To him/her a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, and failure is death." --Pearl S. Buck Shelbbaby Happy Mother's Day! They were very cute on stage and actually did a pretty good job with their dances (as well as 6 yr olds can!) But alas she doesn't want to dance anymore. Caroline Posted by: Caroline on May 10, 2005 04:15 AMfrom IP: 200.138.244.123EY,GUYS,I´VE BEEN WITHOUT POSTING FOR SO LONG... Paul, (That seems so wrong for my first post here, It would normally be Mr. Mercurio :) -- But reading through the posts, you have made yourself so accessible, that Paul seems natural). My first post here, so first up, thanks. I think it is great that you do this for fans. Secondly -- I had some reservations (as a straight man) posting here as well, but reading from others, I am comfortable with it now. Thirdly -- An introduction -- I have long been a devout Australophile. I devoured books, movies, anything Australian. Even travelled Down Under in pursuit of a girl from Victoria with whom I had fallen in love. Anyway, I discovered what a great actor you were when SB came out. I loved the movie and though you and the entire cast were excellent. I have since watched every piece of film work you have done with great enjoyment. You really are blessed with a lot of talent. Fourthly -- Why I am actually posting. I have read through here of some problems with blood pressure -- If ever you need advice, please contact me, I am a professor of pharmacology and cardiac drugs are one of my areas. Also, I have long strived (or at least wished) to maintain optimum health. In trying to do so, my brother and I have had many discussions as to who we should strive to look like. In comparing body shapes, I think I have discovered that of all the "movie stars" we have considered, you are the one!!! This epiphany came this past weekend as I was flipping channels and came across Exit to Eden. I said to myself THAT is the bodytype I have. So, to confirm this, I think I have read in here that you are 5 feet, 8 3/4 inches tall. Is that the case? (If so, you have exactly 1 in on me). The big question I have, is what is your weight? More specifically, about what did you weigh when you were filming Exit to Eden? Now, I know that is a very personal question, and if you wish to not answer I understand. Also, I am assuming you will get my e-mail address in this post somehow, so you could answer in private if you prefer. I think, though, that now that I have identified a famous person as an example, I will have better luck in getting in shape. Also, I think we are of a similar age (I have a couple of years on you at 43). Sorry for rambling. Bottom line, regardless of responses, thank you SO much for great work in SB, Joseph, Back of Beyond, Exit to Eden. I still love watching those simply for your performances. Scott Posted by: Scott on May 10, 2005 05:02 AMfrom IP: 164.58.59.21When I watched Exit to Eden the first time, the only thing I liked about it was the love story (Elliot and whatshername). However when I watched it the other night, I had to zoom through it because I was blushing! Paul all I could think is how you turned down an axe murdering role but you had no probably getting spank with a paddle - huh?! Posted by: tea on May 10, 2005 05:53 AMfrom IP: 63.169.26.201oops probably should be "problem" Also, I liked more than just the love story but that's what I took away, enjoyed the most. Posted by: tea on May 10, 2005 06:00 AMfrom IP: 63.169.26.201I saw SB years ago in a movie theatre and liked it.I haven't seen it since and I have never seen any of our other work so I would't call myself a true fan. And to top it off tells alot of his story on the net without sugar-coating it or using it as a soapbox. Incredible when you think how gutsy that is. Its one thing for strangers to read it but even the next door neighbor or people you work with can read it. Very Corageous. So I guess I'm a fan of the blog and the site. This may sound material but I sure hope your brewing Co. makes you lots and lots of money. You deserve it.
Greetings to Paul and his PCers...Evelyn and I had a delightful although brief visit last Saturday. We definitely did toast Paul and everyone in the Corner. There are so many lovely people here. Thinking of you, Hello everyone, like isabel i haven't been much able to post, this is the part of the semester where everything gets crazy and we have lots of work left to do before it ends. also there's final exams which are kinda stressfull and hatefull. I don't know if it's the same situation in other places besides USA and its territories but over here its a living nightmare at the end of the semester, specially if you're ending a specific degree. Says it will debut at the end of May. A pity we won't see you, Paul, as they are all American celebs. Gosh, this will be fun to talk about around the water cooler tomorrow. Be well. Selena, good luck with the end of the semester, finals, projects and all. Not sure if it helps you much, but the perspective from the other side, well, that of the faculty member anyway, isn't much better either: Way too much to do, way too much grading, (2 sets of finals that I gave today are giving me dirty looks from downstairs ... ignoring them for the evening!!!), way too many students handing in assignments late (sigh!!!) and way too many meetings, but I can count days now--wrapping everything up by Monday. then I'll probably get very bored and "lonely" fast, since I'm not teaching this summer... go figures! Bon voyage Millie and Ellie for Sunday and a fabulous time with your family in Israel!!! Welcome to Scott and Adele, glad you joined us!!! Evelyn - your end of the year sounds a lot like mine except you don't have to do hall duty and watch 800 middle schoolers hit, kick, trip, slap, push and pull each other. To not hide behind a mask and reveal everything you are risking possible judgement or criticism is something that is gutsy and very admirable. I think probably one of the greatest human achievements is to appreciate oneself and not hide, the good, the bad, and all the other idiosyncrasies about oneself from others. A true testament of self love. And eventually such a person will find others who will appreciate that true self. If only we could all be so gutsy. That's what Paul's corner has taught me. Take care all! I love that there are so many people coming out on Paul's corner. It's nice to know that the magic of SB is timeless, obviously. So, whenever it plays on cable, Paul has a bunch of new fans. Like someone wrote here, it's not so much the movie that has brought us together but the opportunity to communicate to Paul. There are very few stars who would do this, which makes him extremely special. I often think of us being caught in his net. You know, like he cares about us, that it is one thing that he has enjoyed by becoming a movie star and wants to continue to feel he has. Well obviously he does and I'm glad to be a part of that. :) Grandma Mil here... I want to thank all of you lovely people who have wished Ellie and me a safe and enjoyable journey this afternoon, as we leave for Israel. We go via London, and change planes for Tel Aviv. Our eldest daughter, Paula, who has lived in Israel 30 years, just called to wish us also an enjoyable trip, and to tell us that we will be met at the airport by her and almost all of her 9 children, the eldest 3 catching up with us during the week! We haven't seen these children for 6 years, so you can just imagine...I plan on taking plenty of digital pictures and video during the week that we plan to stay. The "New York Times" reviewed a charming new film documentary, featuring New York City 5th The name of the documentary is "Mad Hot Ballroom", and with a big ad in the New York Times on Friday, it was proclaimed by the Los Angeles Times, that the movie is "Irresistible! The New York Times proclaimed: "A Feel-Good Film with Mounting Passion!" and the New York Magazine Sounds familiar, right? I spent ten days there some time ago,and I would have stayed and worked on a kibutz if I didn't have commitments I had to meet. I absolutely loved it there. Keep safe and God bless. Barbara (USA) Posted by: Barbara on May 19, 2005 09:38 AMfrom IP: 64.218.92.25Hello everybody, I hope you're doing all fine. Sorry I haven't been able to post here much, I'm very busy at the moment, but hopefully I will be back soon. Take care everybody, Hello PC Friends, Just wanted to check in and say hello. I've been listening to my "Strictly Ballroom" cd. That always puts me in a wonderful. My favorites are "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps", "Tango Please" and the "Paso Doble". From there, my tastes have grown to Latino music. Yea, I can sing some of the words but I have no idea what I'm saying! Hope everyone is well! HUGS, Hi Paul, my name's Erin, i'm a student at Greystanes High and we've been studying.. yea you guessed it "Strictly Ballroom" i loved the movie but i wanted to know more about the real "Scott Hastings" so i came to this site.. it's so great that you have your own dreams with opening your beer cafe and i'm sure it'll happen for you and it'll be a huge success.. it is good to know that your life is going so well with all these exciting opportunities.. i wish you and your family good health goodbye and goodluck Posted by: Erin on May 23, 2005 09:07 AMfrom IP: 203.166.96.238I'm new to the group having just become a fan in the last month. Where was I the last 10 years when you were performing, Paul? Guess I was too buried in my financial consulting business. Sorry it's taken so long to appreciate your tremendous talent! That's what so great about capturing performances on video. They remain frozen in time for anyone to view and anyone can become an admirer at any point. Also the internet allows a whole new generation of fans to develop. Glad to hear that you will be making another movie in July. Where's the filming taking place - in the USA or overseas? I'm semi-retired now and starting back up with my dance classes. I studied ballet, jazz, tap, and flamenco as an adult and then performed in community theatre. Lost interest for many years and then I rediscovered it via "Strictly Ballroom." Time to dust off the barre and get back on my toes. Please keep inspiring us, Paul. We need it so badly. You help us and we'll help you. Posted by: Leilani on June 12, 2005 03:16 AMfrom IP: 207.200.116.134Congrats! How could we see the cooking show in the US? I have a lot of international channels, but who knows if I get the right ones... :( p.s. come to LA and visit me, Paul! xoxoxox Posted by: Michelle F on June 12, 2005 05:04 PMfrom IP: 24.127.18.36NOTE: Comments are moderated.
