Summer Ale Labels

Hi Everyone!

Paul has sent me some cool graphics for his Summer Ale labels (these have the Peach Ale wording, which will change), and he's asked me to post them up so he can get opinions. Click the thumbnails below for a larger version:

Label 1

Label 2

Label 3

Label 4

I think they're all stunning.

I love them, Paul is so creative. It's subtle but very lovely.

And what a perfect day to post these, it's Friday and I'm off the wagon on the weekends! :D

They're great! Took me a while to work out what the background was, the contrasting colourings in labels 3 and 4 helped. I like label 4 but I think Paul should make the phoenix (is it a phoenix?)the same colour as the one in label 1.

Thanks for sharing them with us Paul.

What colour is the glass going to be ?
I think I'd like label 3 or 4 if it's clear glass cause the blue would pick up well ( image of summer sky comes into play )
not so sure it would have the same effect on dark green or brown glass . Label 1 would work on green glass nicely .

Paul: I like the design very much. My choice is Label No.1. because the color of the Phoenix catches your eye and thats what works.
Good Luck

Wow. I love it. It's green. I love green!
It's green and brown, it gives you the impression it's natural.
Wow. Paul is so creative =)
It's great! I love it!!!

Grandma Mil and Sally C: I have a message for you on the last post.

Love the labels and am huge fan of the brewer! Will these be available in the USA?

Paul,
I really like the overall design and layout of these labels. Great job! I love the font you are using for "Mercs Own" and the "Summer Ale", they create an interesting visual contrast to the background image. Also, I like the placement of the objects and text on the label itself, although I still have to wrap my head around the fact that this will be placed on a round object and not flat.

In terms of the color combinations, someone else has said this already, that the color of the glass might make a difference on the overall look and whether that might make some colors pop out more or less.

What I like about label 1 is that the bird pops out more because it's in a color that's not part of the background, but to me it's not as warm and sunny looking in it's color scheme than the other labels. I think if it were me, I'd change the hue of the light brown bird somewhat, although I'm not sure if I'd want to bring out the orange or red shades more or something else.

In terms of labels 2 - 4 with the warmer color scheme, which I like a lot, I like label 4 the most with both the blue and yellow shades in the background. The only thing I don't like in it is that on the right of the label, there is too much yellow that it blends the right wing of the bird too much into the background and it looses its stand out power, that is not an issue in the labels 2 and 3 because it looks that the color is erased there and the white background comes through there. I think the bird needs to stand out, since if I remember this correctly, this is also used in other advertising and logos for your company where it's separate from the textured background and in that sounds it would be the most important feature that visually connects the beer to your company and advertisement.

Okay these are my 2 cents, actually I think it's more than just 2 cents, oh well :-)

Good luck with the marketing of the summer ale!

Thanks for your comments guys!! The label will be on brown bottles. You can imagine the right half side of the label will be the front of the bottle and the left side of the label wraps around the bottle and to the back.

Lots of work to do on it!!!! Not so much the label but getting the beer sorted, brewed and then in the bottle!

Keep the feed back coming!

Hi PJM,
Here's my 2+ cents:

Place the phoenix color of label 1 on label 4. The brown of the glass will make the phoenix POP!! The green of lush growing grass, yellow of a sizzling/scorching sun, and the blue of a blazing azure sky all scream SUMMER.

Well done. Head up, elbows high, and feet moving forward,

Hi there all,

First, Paul, I agree with the majority here, the color of the bird on #1 on #4. While all are great I think it is the best choice.

Louise, we use Familysearch.org and ancestry.com, both great sites. Good luck with those.

Thirdly, I got some news. After my trip to the hospital in Nov, for "possible Cardic issuses", all negative, I got a call 3 weeks later saying it was pneumonia, 3 days later, I got antibiotics. No relief. So then I go back and he X-Rays again , and says lungs are fine, but he now thinks I have a "pulimary embolism"....CT Scan. Well after 2 months I get the diagnosis. Emphysema. Heres the kicker, I am a non smoker and no one in my house smokes. I am 38 next month and have 5 kids. Talk about a kick in the pants. Trying to remain calm until I know the extent of the damage. Wish me luck huh?

Forgive me if I am a bummer to this happy blog. Needed a vent I guess.

Paul..........Best of luck getting all the bottling done. Seems to me you are one who makes things happen...I also hope it will be available here in the US. NW is great for beer and ale. Love to try it some time.

Cheers.......Michelle#3

I like label 3. But I like the Phoenix on label one the best.

They're all good. Just like the coloring on label 3 the best.

HELLO PC FRIENDS,

PAUL-I'll keep it simple-label number 3.

MICHELLE #3-I'm so sorry to hear your diagnosis. What are the treatment options? I really wish I had more comforting words to offer. Please, do keep us posted and do what you can to take care of yourself. I know, I know, easier said than done with 5 kids (I have 3 myself and am going to be 38). You'll be in my thoughts and your post wasn't a bummer-this is something that's serious and I'm sure I speak for all us here-you can come and vent anytime-we're here to support you.

HUGS!

Dear Michelle #3,

I agree with Abeth, here on PC we offer support and love, no matter what.

Have you considered a second or third opinion? If you are fortunate to be near a large city with good hospitals and doctors with marvelous credentials in their fields, I would suggest you look into that, if possible.

Our thoughts are with you!

Shalom and love,

Grandma Mil

Hi guys!

PAUL, great job on the label design -- I agree with the others: my favorite label is #3, with the bird in the color on the #1 label.

MICHELLE, hope you follow Grandma Mil's advice and get a second opinion. Seems to me that your present health care providers have given you too many false diagnosis already. Thoughts and prayers being sent your way.

Hugs,
Nertha

The bright colors of the design go perfectly with the name, summer ale. I love the label 2 especially because all the yellow colors work together so well. Definetly speak summer for me.

HELLO PC FRIENDS,

MICHELLE #3-How are you?

I won't be checking in tomorrow because it's Bethany's belly button surgery. I'll check in on Monday.

Everyone-do have a lovely weekend!!

Cool! I love 3 and 4, but decided that 3 was easiest on my eye. It makes me feel a warm sunny day, sitting near the water somewhere, and sipping a nice cold one. I LOVE peach ales. Do you have to use the word "syrup" in the ingredients? How about peach flavoring or something that sounds more natural?
Man, you have to promise to send some to the states...WHEN it's a hit for you! We'll pay for it! lol

Great job Paul!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone.

My Aspen (cat) is doing well on his thyroid medication. It's still a roller coaster ride until it becomes stable and is costing me an arm and a leg. He's worth it!

See ya later. :)

Michelle # 3. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. It's amazing how mixed up the medical findings can be sometimes. I agree, that a 2nd opinion might be in order. Just be positive and proactive. AND strong!

Abeth, best of luck with the baby's surgery. Thank god she has a wonderful mommy. Give her lots of snuggles to get her back to being herself asap.

Abeth & Bethany: thinking of you and sending you my best wishes that all is well today, and Abeth to you an extra portion of strong and calm nerves!

Michelle#3, lots of good health to you and may you get the answers you deserve so that you can get the treatment you need to get well. Don't be shy to ask questions, you need to ask them--remember that's why we pay them so much. And thanks for sharing your worries with us. I hope you sense the support from us here!

Have a great weekend all!

Hi PJM,
I'm agreeing with Mary S. regarding a substitute for the word "syrup." It smacks of being sugar laden. Possibly essence of peach or extract of peach would work.

Congratulations to you and your wife. 18 years, a feat, to be sure. So wonderful to see you say you are still in love and still enjoying yourself. So many people embrace the concept of love but never seem happy. Bravo to you both. Since this is my first time here and Strictly Ballroom is my favorite movie of all time, I must comment. I enjoyed you so much in that filn that I almost wish there was a way you could reprise the role. That may not be in your plans, but leave me to my dreams. I loved every element of the film and when it was over I wanted to know what went on. Your performance and your persona stuck with me. Here's hoping and putting intention into play that you will be starring in movies sooner rather than later. Glad, I found your blog. Looking forward to trying some of your recipes. As a specialty foods company owner and cook of some renown, here in Houston, I appreciate a fellow foodie. Again, good luck to you,
Demetria

Hello All,

Sorry I have been away, been busy. Added a new family member 8 days ago. A nephew, cute as can be.

Abeth, Evelyn, MaryS, & Nertha,~~~ Thank you so much for your kind words of support and encouragment. I am staying positive and hopeful, and am sincerely grateful for all your possitive thoughts, I DO FEEL the support.

Gramma Mil~~~ I am very fortunate(on sunny days) to live in Vancouver, Washington, about 10 miles from the greater Portland, Oregon metropolitan area. I am definately going for a second opinion, but I did have a CT Scan and I am going on the 3rd for a pulmonary function test. They say this will help with a "diagnosis" in terms of advancement, and damage. I do have no intention of just lying down and taking it. I always think the best thing for any "poor" diagnosis, is positivity, laughter, and continued joy in life. This is what I will continue to strive for, good or bad.
I will let you all know what I find out, and then begin the search for my 2nd opinion, with the info from the first in hand!

Abeth~~~ All my thoughts are of you and Bethany today. God Bless her and you. I am sure all will be well. Let us know.

All of you~~ Thank You again, I cant say it enough, it means the world especially, when you dont have many friends, all are gone or very far away now, to have all of you. I am humbled by this gift!

Cat and Paul~~ Thanks for gift of this group.

Paul
My computer must not be getting the coloring in your labels. Ths only difference is the #1 which seems to have a brown Phoenix. Which ever one you go with, it will look great.

Next Wednesday, Feb. 1st I will be celebrating the 10TH ANIVERSARY of my Quadruple by-pass. I can't believe it has been that long.

Has anyone in the states been watching the American version of DWTS? They have some great celebrities on this time (same judges) that are really good. One is a female professional wrestler and she is tied for first right now, with Drew Lachey (98 degrees) Jerry Rice(a pro football player)is also getting better; the top three are close. They seem to be a little stiff and nervous the first week or so and now they are starting to let it all hang out. When they did the Paso Doble, I thought of SB.

I also found DWTS on a Spanish channel. I can't read or speak Spanish, but I can watch the dancing.

Michelle #3 I agree with Gran Mil. Make another appointment for a second opinion. Call your local medical referal contacts and see if you can find someone. Good Luck

It's been raining, raining, raining here. We made the national news with the most number days of rain in a row. Didn't make 40 days & 40 nights, but came close. With all this rain here, it makes us appreciate it more when the sunshine comes out.

Take care & Love to all
Marge

Hey peeps,

If Mr Mercurio reads this, in my opinion, I think Label 1 works best. The yellowy-green b/ground looks a lot like sunlight through palm ferns, and the light brown-tanny colour of the wings motif is really appropriate because is supposed to signify genuiness, which would appeal to consumers looking for a good, solid summer ale.
Well, thats it for me.
