2009
Happy New Year!!! Believe it or not it is now 2009. Where on earth did 2008 go? I am very excited about 2009 I feel very positive about what the year will bring. I have some idea on what I am going to be doing but as usual I also have no idea about where I will end up. I feel in my bones though that this is the year I have been wanting to get to, this is the year where I will make that leap to the next level - actually I made the leap a while ago this is the year when I will land, stand up and be counted, reap my success and own it! This is the year that I consolidate me and move into the next phase of my life and career. Big words I know - let the journey begin! I wish every one here a magnificent 2009. May your journey through the year be one of joy and prosperity. No doubt we will all face challenges and if we look back over 2008 we got through those challenges to live, love and fight another day and the same will go for 2009. What doesnt kill us makes us stronger (although it does hurt occassionall) As for New Year resolutions I heard on the news the other night that some people with too much time on their hands did some research into the human brain and found that we are not wired to achive any new year resolutions we may make. I have known this for some time and have therfore never made them. I do like to make my "positive affirmation statements" leading into the new year and strangely they seem to be the same statements I make every year so either they are really good ones or I am not acheiving them and having to reaffirm year after year! So here goes: drink less (alcohol not water), excercise more (my body and my brain) That will do for now and I remain open to embracing any other positive affirmations that come my way during the year. Look forward to the journey ahead and sharing with you all my discoveries, trials, challenges and successes and sharing yours. Note: comments on old entries are closed. Please comment only on the current entry. Comments Sounds wonderful and I'm very happy for you for where you find yourself at the cusp of 2009!!! I hope with every fiber of my being that what you predict for yourself for 2009 will become true/real and then more! Not sure how I feel about 2009, still have a few hours left in 2008 to contemplate that. Evelyn, so far 2009 has been a pretty good year! Posted by: Paul on January 1, 2009 08:16 AMfrom IP: 211.28.150.55Glad that you are embracing what is--your success is already a reality by you embracing it. It just is--there is no fighting it--it is inevitable. Well wishes on this first day of 2009!!!The work that you do be it in dance, travel, or in cooking is really joyful and inspiring and I wish for you that the good you have created returns back to you infinitely many times over. Liz. Posted by: Liz on January 1, 2009 11:18 AMfrom IP: 24.22.75.68I have to agree with you Paul, my first 101 minutes of 2009 have been pretty good. Not sure why it makes psychologically a difference, but I'm glad that 2008 is behind me, it was a difficult and painful year for me, one that I'm more than glad to leave behind and am looking to the future with greater hope. Posted by: Evelyn on January 1, 2009 02:43 PMfrom IP: 70.238.143.204Dear Paul, Thank you so much for sharing another year with us. I so look forward to watching your life and career continue to blossom in the coming year. I have said it before and will say it again, you are like a fine wine, you get better every year. (even if you intend to drink less, although, I think you may prefer beer over wine) Your affirmations are good ones and don't sound impossible to achieve. I think the issue with some resolutions are that they may be too vague or too out there to achieve. Yours sound doable. I feel you will attain much more than you set out to. You are so much stronger and amazing than you realize!! For myself, I want to learn productive ways to deal with challenges and changes. That's it! Hmmm, that sounds a bit vague, huh? As I have said many times, I feel so fortunate to have been able to share with all of you this past year and look forward to your friendship in the coming year! HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Posted by: MaryS on January 2, 2009 12:21 AMfrom IP: 67.190.130.217Happy 2009 everyone! Posted by: Clair (From the UK) on January 2, 2009 01:46 AMfrom IP: 86.169.163.106The first day of 2009, and I am spending it with two of my closest friends relaxing. I barely made it until midnight last night - I was so exhausted from all the driving I've done in the past couple days. Like Paul I don't make resolutions. I don't see a point to "promise" to do something and then break the promise 30 seconds later. LOL I am, however, planning to continue to strive for goals I set in 2008. I will work towards the weight-loss goal I've made, and I am going to continue to live a healthier life. We are only on this Earth for a short time, and I plan to enjoy my allotted time. I wish all the best to Paul, his family, and all my friends here at PC. May 2009 be a year of change and hope. Posted by: Sarah on January 2, 2009 02:08 AMfrom IP: 67.101.24.183Will try stay true to desire to become more active--will go for a 2 hour hike. Overcome sloth... Liz:) Will let you know how it goes. Posted by: Liz on January 2, 2009 07:15 AMfrom IP: 24.22.75.68No one showed up for the hike--I went to the meeting place and a sign was posted that there was an earlier hike but no street ramble in the evening. Disappointed, but will do other exercise. Congrats to me for breaking my new year's resolution. Yeay! Posted by: Liz on January 2, 2009 12:06 PMfrom IP: 24.22.75.68Day 2 of 2009. Grandma Mil I ordered MBF early 2 inches of snow overnight in our neck of the woods; Keep warm Cat! Posted by: Liz on January 2, 2009 10:21 PMfrom IP: 24.22.75.68I renounce all New Year's Resolutions; I will not strive to be more and be better; for once I will be happy as I am. (of course there's a lot to improve upon) but for now will stop and just be accepting of all that is. Posted by: Liz on January 3, 2009 10:26 AMfrom IP: 24.22.75.68Liz, I was going to tell you I was sorry to hear about the hike, but then you came back to say you are happy as you are. :o) I've been having a great time in Brooklyn with my friends. I head back to Virginia tomorrow. Looks like the weather should be good for the drive. Posted by: Sarah on January 3, 2009 12:38 PMfrom IP: 67.101.24.183Happy 2009, everyone! I enjoy watching the celebrations as they go around the globe. It is nice to contemplate that, for a little while, the whole world is celebrating the same thing. I also do not make resolutions. I know what I am working on, or should be working on, so why be redundant? Thanks, Paul, for your optimism. I appreciate it. Posted by: Becky on January 3, 2009 01:25 PMfrom IP: 70.217.175.133Hi Paul I haven't posted on here before, but often stop by to read your news. I hope 2009 brings you and your family all that you wish for and much more. I look forward to reading the updates as you journey through this year. Happy 2009 to all the other PCs. http://www.watercooler.net.au/content/clients_celebrities/images/paul_mecurio.jpg Absolutely thrilled to hear you will be back on DWTS in Wellington, my home town! Totally unmissable viewing - and I video it too to enjoy again later. I really appreciate your professional judging and enthusiastic & friendly attitude to the whole sparkling event! What's the chance of you taking a spin on the floor yourself this time? Posted by: Heather on January 5, 2009 06:09 PMfrom IP: 121.73.52.132Heather - none! It has been so long since I did any dance of any kind that I fear the dancer has left the building. I am happy and content to dance around the kitchen whilst my children (and my wife) laugh at me! I am also happy and content to leave those days where I danced on stage in front of an audience as happy and distant memories - great memories, great times but time ever moves on and so have I. Glad to hear you are looking forward to the show. Posted by: Paul on January 6, 2009 07:40 AMfrom IP: 211.28.150.55Paul, what I've learned from dance is "never say 'never again'"!! :) Wishing you and your family a great 2009 that continues with love, health, happiness, and every success. Looking forward to reading your next posts. And here's hoping that MM makes syndication world-wide. And most certainly to Cat and all PCs, I wish all of you the very best for the new year. Cheers!
Paul, I'm appalled! (pun intended) Just kidding. But not so much kidding. These "stars" who most of the time have little dance talent, along with ALL of your many fans, would be thrilled to see you do your magic on the floor. I don't mean magic in the sense that you are able to do what you did years ago. I think magic is always magic, in whatever form it grows in to. Once a consummate professional, always one, I guess, so I can understand where you're coming from. I am not a professional dancer, so I guess I have no right to say. But speaking for myself, a huge fan, I would thrill to the bone to see you do anything anywhere, where it involved dance in any form. Am I clear enough? lol. sorry to be so pushy. ;) Posted by: MaryS on January 6, 2009 12:14 PMfrom IP: 67.190.130.217p.s. Liz, thanks for the nice picture of Paul. Very nice. :) Posted by: MaryS on January 6, 2009 12:16 PMfrom IP: 67.190.130.217So Paul, you do not have a partner either? When I dance my own steps.... Hey I have an idea!!! Kidding aside you are a stunning dancer (quote from one of your many fans); there is that extra swiftness when you turn or move your arm (and I am just looking at SB and the clips of your other dance)it would be amazing to see you dance. Hard to describe but when you dance it is like the aliveness of the universe taking form in a fleeting dance. Posted by: Liz on January 7, 2009 12:59 AMfrom IP: 24.22.75.68Liz (and Paul)-- Gorgeous picture! Very worth mounting on this site! Posted by: Melody on January 7, 2009 03:01 AMfrom IP: 163.192.13.153Not too productive with work today but did find gold in the Youtube archives: this may be the closest you can come to watching Paul in a cooking show in the US, well until Mercurio's Menu gets syndicated and shown (cross your fingers!) It teaches you how to make beer--looks really fun with Paul and his assistant. Has good info and tips but really watchable for Paul's in it. Somnehow I find this video funny even though it is a serious howto on making your own beer. To Paul and Cat, feel free to delete the post if not OK to show this beermaking video. Liz Posted by: Liz on January 7, 2009 08:25 AMfrom IP: 24.22.75.68Thanks, Liz for posting that link. I actually watched all 5 videos (you'll see them lined up on the right--click on each to see the complete story). Paul, viewers must feel like they're meeting up with an old friend and hanging out, working on a project together. Very easy-going presentation and well communicated. While I know this is purposely a how-to for Cooper's products, I can imagine that MM would be a success in the States, just starting with Paul's amiable charm and personality. On another note, goo thoughts and prayers to our US PCs in the Pacific NW and Colorado--may all of you be safe during these floods and fires. (US weather is off to a real kick in the pants for 2009!) (I think all of you know I mean "good thoughts and prayers"--the d slipped . . . ) Posted by: Melody on January 9, 2009 12:41 PMfrom IP: 75.33.240.175Melody thanks for the goo thoughts and prayers. SYNOPSIS: (Running time: few minutes) Alien from dry planet uses up all beer supply and goes on in an intergalactic search to find this drink. Mr. Paul Mercurio from Australia fortunately has this secret knowledge and along with his assistant, they teach the alien how to make beer and before you know it, YOU yourself know how, along with the alien of course. You have been tricked into learning how to make beer without realizing it. Paul is a natural teacher--I can see why He would be great in Mercurio's Menu. Great teaching syle and presence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdB6Gs75GNw&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_ms_mhEx3k&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGoeeLcsVU4&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtYbBIksWH0&feature=related For the PCs above is the Brew Film Festival! Posted by: Evelyn on January 16, 2009 02:20 AMfrom IP: 70.238.164.111well happy new year I just was trying to find the way to say Paul Mercurio, if he read this that I was very good acting as Joseph in that movie on the 1995. Im a christian , I was seeing the movie yesterday and it was good. Take care you and youre family and God Bless You Posted by: Isabelle on January 16, 2009 04:39 AMfrom IP: 70.45.148.181Liz, thankfully I had a flu shot before the season hit. I never used to get them but my previous health care provider recommended it with my high blood pressure. I am feeling better, thanks. I think lots of fluid, rest and taking it easy is helping. Posted by: Sarah on January 16, 2009 08:51 AMfrom IP: 4.248.38.129Sarah, lots of fluids, not beer (yet), rest and taking it easy seems to work for many conditions. Evelyn, making beer seems so easy on the video if you use the kit as Paul has taught. You do not have to grow the hops and sprout the barley as it is all in the can, and the yeast does all the work, or it may be Paul's teaching style, you get hooked on making beer. Posted by: Liz on January 16, 2009 02:41 PMfrom IP: 24.22.75.68I take that back; I have no idea how easy it is; just looks easy; I bet they have a troubleshooting section on the video. Ask Paul. Posted by: Liz on January 16, 2009 04:12 PMfrom IP: 24.22.75.68Whether brewing beer is easy or not he looks pretty darn cute in that video. At least I had the courage to say it. nanana
I had to leave my job recently. I've been suffering from physical burnout (in other words I got tired of feeling like my back and neck were a board). Now I'm looking just for a skin care job and I won't be massaging anymore. My husband's been supportive of my transition and hopefully things will transition smoothly. Its scary to make these types of jumps expecially with the economy the way it is. I've meet at least four people the past month who have left their jobs voluntarily despite unemployment rates so I don't feel alone. At least I have a skill and a good record at my last job and that keeps my moral up. I'm still writing and photographing. I will be getting an article published in Go Riverwalk Magazine sometime in the spring. At least its a start. I opened a facebook account to network with the people in my photography club. I don't know if anyone else here is on facebook or not. All the best to everyone! Julie Posted by: Julie on January 16, 2009 09:00 PMfrom IP: 74.173.209.65Julie,I'm on Facebook. Just search for Marian Almgren in the Oklahoma City area. Send me a friend request and I'll approve you. (I must say that getting my messages on facebook can be challenging for me. My computer system is really old and doesn't accept much of facebooks programming, but I can see friend updates and receive messages.) I anyone else of Facebook? Grandma Mil, I think my post to you about my email address may have been missed as it was in the post were I accidentally typed my name as Hillary when was mentally composing my message to Hilary. My mom (91 years old) ended up in the hospital this weekend. She has been having gallbladder problems for a few months and finally had to have it removed. After the laparoscopic procedure it was determined that there were stones stuck in the main bile duct, so there will be another procedure tomorrow to get those out of there. Oye. She's a trooper and doing ok, but it's been so upsetting to me. Can't wait for her to get home and get her life and strength back! Posted by: Evelyn on January 18, 2009 11:27 PMfrom IP: 70.238.164.111Hi.Everyone! It's been a while. With a new computer and lot's to learn, I have had a busy holiday-s. I am still learning what to do. I have discovered a computer guy. He works through the Senior Center here and he DOESN'T charge a thing. I have made donations to the Senior Center in his name. He tries to bike 200 miles a month, and has built his own airplane. It looks like a mini spruce goose. He has been a real treasure. I have also referred him to several of my friends and they are delighted with his work too. Our area made the national news with all the snow and flooding we had around here. This is the first time that we have had snow for Christmas since 1861? I think.. The national news said that basically, Seattle was closed. No Planes, Buses or trains getting or out. People got stuck in the snow and just left their vehicles buried under the berm that the snow plows left covering them. I don't usually drive in the snow, unless I absolutely have to. A year ago, I got a new mini van and didn't even put 3000 Miles on it in one year. So you can see how much driving I do. FYI PAUL. Maybe the American DWTS can offer you a spot on ours. They had Michael Flatley on as a guest judge. I wasn't impressed. He has also come out with an international super dance competition with singles, groups, and pairs. I only watched part of it. Boring!!!!!!! I would like to add one more bit of advice to Paul on his marriage. Never go to bed angry. Take care everyone and love to all. Great Day here, today is the inauguration day for Pres Obama; I nominated Paul to be pres but he was Australian, so he does't qualify, but being Australian is actually a great asses to be president, but those are the rules, a while back during the nominations process. Have a good day Paul and the PCs! Posted by: Liz on January 20, 2009 09:53 PMfrom IP: 24.22.75.68Watching Obama's inaugural address brought some tears to my eyes. This man is coming into sooo much nation-wide and world-wide. A prayer to keep him and his family safe and wisdom beyond his years to guide us well. Marge, Chicago has been hit pretty hard in early winter, but then again, this IS Chicago and it's expected! It certainly letting us know who's boss weatherwise, that's for sure! I am Obama'd out for the moment and now sit in wonderful anticipation to see what the future holds. Microsoft announced a 6000 person layoff today. Sun, where I work has announced 5 to 6 thousand layoff, of which I may very well be a part of. I've been there going on 11 years, am now in my 50's and the thought of starting over at the BOTTOM, which is what will likely happen, does not appeal to me. This is not a time that I would normally relish change and exciting new options, like I would have 10 years ago. Well, we shall see what becomes of all of us during this difficult time. Not much we can do about it. Just this morning on CNN I watched a sobering analysis of whether America is in a serious recession OR a mild depression. They said there is absolutely no doubt that it is one of these. It's pretty sad. Well, let's hope for a better future for our country and it's citizens huh? Thanks for finding me on facebook Sarah, Julie and Evelyn! Evelyn, thanks for the compliments on my home and I really enjoyed your pictures too! Enjoyed looking at all of your pages!
