Just another questionnaire

Magazine and News Paper journos have become a lazy lot - well actually it is more likely their bosses cutting costs and so instead of beng interviewed face to face I am often sent a questionnaire asking if I could fill in the blanks using about 400 words and send it back. These questionnaires can cover subjects like whats in your shopping basket, 6 things you cant do with out, list your three geatest moments, list your three greatest failures etc you get the picture. So below is my response to the latest questionnaire sent to me asking that I write about 4 things I think are good, three that are bad and one ugly.

I thought I would post it here as I haven't posted anything for a while and this is part of what I do and who I am. It may or may not stir people up a bit which may or may not be a good thing.

Thinking is not dangerous action with out thought is.

Good

Beer -- often called nectar of the gods and for good reason too. Not only does it taste good and make you feel quite pleasant (in moderation of course) but the making of it employs hundreds of people from farmers, chemists, truck drivers, manufacturers, marketers, publicans, chefs and of course brewers. So I feel good knowing every time I have a glass of the amber nectar I am helping to keep hundreds of Aussies in jobs!

Family -- It is not always easy but it is fun, full of laughter, love and the smell of cooking onions and garlic and it makes me complete. It has made me a far far better man than I ever could have hoped to be.

Choice -- some would say there are two choices in life - a good choice or a bad choice but I have discovered that there really is only one choice -- and that is to choose Happiness. If you choose to be happy, you will be, and all other choices you make in life when you are in that happy state will be good ones because you were happy to make them.

Love -- it is about the spiritual and positive connection to oneself and thereby to the world around us. It is infinite and insatiable the more you give the more you get -- it makes the world go around.

Bad -- Religion --More wars have been fought and more people have been raped, tortured, maimed and murdered all in the name of religion than for any other reason in the history of the world. Let’s face it the world would be a much safer and happier place if we did away with religion.

My disappearing hair line -- it's a bit like life really there is nothing you can do about it but make the best of it and just go along with the ride and eventually do the only thing left to you and shave your head.

Emission Trading Scheme/Politicians/Desalination Plants -- it seems to me as a humble observer that there are many decisions being made by bored politicians without enough thought being put into them. How are fish in the sea supposed to cope with millions of tons of salt being added back into the ocean? How is the planet going to cope with the extra pollution created by burning the extra coal to create the extra power needed to run the Desal plant? How are any of us going to be able to pay the extra taxes on top of the extra charges being levied on all commodities by the lazy politicians because of this misguided idea of an ETS? The world is going mad.

Ugly -- people that don't smile. A simple smile is a wonderful gift not only does it spread joy it makes you feel good and also shows ones inner beauty!

Comments

I am the first to comment as I am not busy doing work on the computer and I am waiting at this time. It would be better if the interview had sound and we can hear you live or recorded and often you get to say more bec it's like a conversation.

Love your good things list! beer makes us happy too esp here in the Pacific NW; your family has made you a better man, choosing happiness and love. I like it where you say love comes from within and that you love yourself first and then love for others follows.

The bad list--very true about the madness that religion brings, politicians who don't think yet have lots of power.

Thanks for the shows (MM) and the joy your performance brings -- a joy to watch you visit growers, fishermen, chefs in Aus and NZ; even the working dogs and even sheep seem happy when you visit them. (except when they hear you are about to cook lamb etc) I hope MM goes on a trip to the NW as we have a thriving beer industry here and the international beerfest is coming soon. They may need a judge.

The reason I mentioned the beerfest is that one of the judges for the NZ Beervana was from our state, so I thought there would be a reciprocal relationship, and they would need to ask the judges from down under to help out and the seasons are opposite. It is big here too but just thought the people here can use the expertise of someone who is an actor and who loves beer.

I am surprised by the silence of the PCs on the above--just wondering is the topic too controversial? like placing beer high up on the list of good things, along with family and choice? Or it is the mention of religion, how it has caused so much suffering? The desalination plant seems like a very costly way to get fresh water, but here were we are we also get water shortages and water wars between farmers and salmon.
I am guessing the PCs are just busy and the silence is not bec the above are taboo subjects. but Paul did state it might stir up some people...

YOU make ME happy! That was to Paul, not Liz. lol

But really, such good stuff Paul. You are so right on!

We really do think so much alike in many ways. I love being able to relate to you. As much as you have endured, you continue to grow into such a powerful and positive force! Not that your life has been bad in any way, at all. It's just that I LOVE your positive attitude when all is said and done. You inspire me!

ah well my life has been bad in many ways - although I would also say I am a bit of a winger as my life has not been really that bad at all - it is subjective.

My fathers partner is in hospital - she fell and broke her hip. she is 81 and has emphasimer - she is a tough old bird and a great lady. She did all the dancing on West Side Story the movie for Rita Marino, any time you see a shot more than a close up it was my Rita or my Dads Rita - Rita Tanner is her name.

She is in hospital and will have an operation tomorrow to fix her broken hip but it is touch and go....

her daughter turned 50 today , my dad is distraught.

Life is unstopable.

Yes, it sucks to have to accept aging, illness and injuries. I hope Rita will be o.k. Amazing how easy it is to break a hip when you are elderly. And how it can just bring your activities to a screeching halt. Cool that she did Rita Moreno's dancing in West Side Story. There were some awesome dance scenes in that movie. I must have seen that movie a dozen times as a kid and loved it. It happened to play with Hard Day's Night as a double feature at our local movie theater and we would spend hours every weekend seeing the 2 movies...and hanging out with our friends, and meeting boys. Rita is my mother's name!

You definitely have had your share of challenges in your life. I just didn't want to talk like I thought your life sucked in any way because what I do see is a man who I consider a renaissance man who continues to inspire me!

Hey all!

Paul, I certainly hope Rita is doing well after surgery and your Dad is coping well. They are in my prayers.

I have finally (I think) begun to drag my butt out of the dark depression I have been in since losing my Dad and losing my job because of my Dad's last stroke. I still havent found a job but we put our house on the market Friday, so that is in itself a heartwrenching feat.

On the good side, Tom and I are in agreement about our future and I think what we will do is after the house sells, we will buy an older home that we can get for a steal and fix it up. All we need is 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It wouild be nice to have 2 bathrooms but we can make with one. Paige will be out of the house in a year and half so we don't need anything big. Also, if we buy a house then I don't have to giv eup my dogs and I really can't function without my dogs which the thought of losing them was a huge source of confusion in my life.

2 bedroom houses are considerably cheaper in my area so I think that is what we will do and give up the $1200/mo mortgage for a $300/mo one. One we can pay off in 10 years.

It feels good to be on the same page and I am ready to let go of our dream house as it really isn't much af a dream anymore as it is a burden.

swoosh, Feels good to get it out and off my chest. I hope I find a part time job at least very soon. I am loving school and am doing online classes as who know what my work schedule will be when I have one.

I actually feel somewhat happy lately and not always in a bad mood. It feels good to even HAVE a mood other than staring off into the distance and not having any feeling about anything at all. I am sick of sleeping or lying in bed half the day. I want to start my life again. So here is a shout out to all my PC family. I didn't forget about you, I still love you, and I'm back.

Love you all,

Kelly H.

I'm so sorry kelly that all that has happened to you. I went through it losing my mom then my brother within a two year period. It is very tough to have the warmth of family and then they are not there anymore.
But your dad is alive in your heart. Don't worry about your job, God has a better one for you.
Keep on keepin on, Stop taking yourself down.
Live your life and have as many happy moments as you can muster, you are going to need those memories when you get old.
Jobs come and go, so don't stress. A better one is coming.
Get up out of bed, shake the dust off, and keep it steppin.

Lord Jesus, I pray you open doors for this woman that she will find her dream job and you heal her of her broken heart, fill her soul with joy, and peace that knoweth no understanding.
In Jesus name, Amen, ....now get up, show up and see where God will take you. +

Paul, you are the winner in showbiz. Think of all of the megamillion stars, who are hooked on drugs, marrying several times and divorcing, etc.
You managed to still be in the business and have a loving family.

Guess what? You won!
I see those rehab shows with stars who look like they are dead and probably are close to it, terrible.
You are blessed....know that.

I pray Rita is healed in Jesus name...I have a feeling she is going to be just fine.

God Bless +
