Dancing with Dingoes?

By Kim Elizabeth

It is no secret to my good friends that a film starring Jackie Chan and Paul Mercurio would be a dream come true for me. Others have agreed that it would be a great idea. I feel that they would have a great chemistry, similar to Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire aka French Astaire as Jackie calls him. A buddy movie would definitely be in order. An Australian buddy movie would be perfect in my humble opinion. So I began to read everything I could about Paul to give me more of an idea of what might work. I was surprised to find out what all Paul and Jackie have in common.
First of all, they are both experienced choreographers in their own fields. Paul as a dancer. Jackie, of course, in martial arts. Secondly, they have both directed. Thirdly, they both love to race cars. Last but not least, have each have a love of their respective alcoholic beverages. Jackie has his own wine label. Paul is a known home brewer in Australia. This makes the possibility and probability of an upcoming movie very interesting.
My dream title for this dream movie is "Dancing With Dingoes". These days we know it is not necessary for the title to match the subject matter. Since Jackie is into Westerns maybe an Australian version of "Dancing With Wolves" might very well be possible and it definitely would be extremely funny. M y choice of director would be Stanley Tong.
My first thought for a title was "Second Strike: Back Down Under" where Jackie returns down under to help track down spies. In the midst of it, He meets up with Paul who he is surprised to find is an excellent martial artist. He only knew him to be a great dancer. Stanley Tong would direct.

The second thought was "Mr. Nice Guy Meets Mr. Home Brewer". Jackie in his culinary role has a new friend in Paul who is a home brewer and is about to open a small brewery of his own. Jackie is interested in having his own winery. This could be funny and explosive given the right screenplay. Sammo Hung would direct.
And thirdly there is the racing idea, but I think that might be more of a guy film. Either way it would be fun for all. I will be looking forward to whatever will come from this possible pairing. Any true fans of Paul and Jackie will as well. It is good to see different sides of our guys. Only one side all the time can get rather monotonous and that won't be encouraged. I believe they could explore things together for the enhanced enjoyment of the fans. What could be better than that? Who is looking forward to "Dancing With Dingoes" the alternative Australian buddy movie? I'm going to work on planting the idea in the right place. Smile.
