In His Eyes
By Kim ElizabethI have seen in his eyes that he has the undeniable power to touch others through his acting. No question about that, because he has moved me. I love great acting and have always been a fan of particular actors and actresses who dare to be vulnerable and to let us into themselves in this special way. I say this at the same time admitting that there have been only a few others who have touched me as deeply as Paul did in his portrayal of Joseph. That is why I call myself his incurable fan!
Also, feeling that I am more qualified to say this because until recently I did not know he was a dancer and had not even heard of "Strictly Ballroom", his huge Australian break through hit. So the fact that I have only known him as an actor to this point...and what an actor....I think allows me to see even farther into what I believe he very well may achieve.
The first time I laid eyes on Paul was in "Exit To Eden". I was one of the few who enjoyed the film for what it is. Anne Rice is my favorite author and this is one of my favorites of her novels. I was disappointed that the film was not very close to the book's essence, but given the material it would have had to be much more explicit to be so and it was not bad as a comedy. I could easily blame Ms. Rice for getting me started as a Paul Mercurio fan. Although the film was not what it could have been had it been other than a comedy, it did give me my first taste of his acting. No wonder I was blown away by "Joseph".
Paul is in for great things to come. His patience is going to pay off very well. His desire to continue learning his craft, and one can never really stop learning if one is to succeed, shows how serious he is. It does take time ro overcome being typecast. He is doing that in his time and in his own way. he has the talent and passion to make it happen. Paul has been
